I don't know what was up with that defensive call on that though. Unless it was just completely busted coverage, and the player's fault. Play call there seemed bad from the start.

The team is regrettably weak at OLB/DE and has difficulty setting and holding the edge against teams that run on them. They get stretched and run around or over. The team tackling is still horribly weak and until there are far fewer whiffs things will stay the same.

As well there is little in the way of any effective pass rush. In result without strong play from the ILBs which has been absent as well the DBs are being attacked and forced to play like LBs which isn't what they are supposed to be doing. Of course it's easy to blame the injury situation and it is clear that the team planning for a pass rush was conditioned upon them having a healthy Nwosu and each of Mafe and Hall stepping up their games which has't happened.

If we look at the roster there are a few names that are significantly underperforming their contracts as well. Tell me if you think Dre'Mont Jones is worth what he is being paid for his significantly underwhelming play. I'm sure we can identify at least 2 or 3 other 'starters' as well.

For us all it's time to take off the rose coloured glasses and face the reality that the team D so far this season is really not very good if viewed honestly. The O is limited by an inability to effectively run block which forces the D to play more than they should due to TOP inequity. Hopefully the troops will ultimately 'get' what Mac wants from them on D but it sure isn't pretty to watch so far.

When your best DT is out and you don't have the LB's to run your scheme what happened last night is exactly what's gonna happen. Give him time to truly get his pieces for his scheme, we're running mostly Pete Carroll bums

Right now the worst case scenario going into the year that our inside LBs aren't good enough is coming true. I am holding out hope on a couple of things:

-If it's wrong gaps etc that is fixable vs guys just getting blown up. Back to the fundamentals in practice
-Yeah I think Murphy is a big deal. Him and Williams swallowing up blockers together really opens up the rest of our D
-This goes with my first point and some time to fix it. Hoping the 3 games in 11 days is a thing...and getting back to a normal schedule not only gives rest, but also time work on these small things you can't during a short week. Yes I know, Niners had a short week to but they didn't cross country after MNF game 10 days earlier either. It's an excuse but Hawks aren't good enough (yet) to overcome that stuff.

So what is your excuse for his 2nd half run defense in Balty that was ranked 30th for that period?

The bad tackling and angles taken to tackle were driving me nuts 1st half especially
That's on the players but when you see your players suck what do you do
Go to vanilla D , just surprised it happened so early
Grubb isn't using misdirection as much if at all as I hoped he would
Plain jane stuff ain't getting it when the oline gives a qb little to no time but geno seems to be afraid of the whiners
Even phantom pressure rattled him 1st half and he always seems to throw ints that he regrets blah blah blah
It's tough to go from optimistic to omg in 11 days
