Has he been figured out on attacking his run defense? He needs to adapt if true.

Matty Brown talks about it in link.

We heard all off-season about how Macdonald defenses are cloaked in mystery and that QBs can't figure out what the defense is going to do or where the pressure is coming from. There were articles about how Macdonald keeps offenses guessing.

But what I see is exactly what we ran last year, a Vic Fangio-type defense with two high safeties. I don't see opposing teams being that confused by it. The Seahawks also don't seem to do anything to generate extra pressure on the QB, which we need because we're not getting any pressure with 4 rushers.

The only people scratching their heads are the Seahawks fans.

Go back and watch us against the Broncos. I’m not seeing the same kind of things that he was doing against us.

I don’t think he has his defense completely integrated. In addition I think that our players are struggling to execute it

I'm not going to call for the firing of a rookie head coach, but holy cow does Mike need to get his shit together. at least show me a glimpse of what we saw in Baltimore last year.

The problem with hiring someone who was a coordinator is that you never know how much he was responsible for the defense's success. I mean John Harbaugh's teams have had a great defense for a loooong time, and he's had a number of different coordinators. Doesn't seem to matter who the coordinator is.

This was posted in the Students forum by Jville but it talks about the same thing, basically his run D lines up the front 4 awfully wide and leaves them exposed unless they're really really good.

That combined with the fact that Dodson, Baker, and Knight are mugging the line so consistently that I've convinced myself it's by design. Then a fast RB just poof, runs right by them, leaving LBs with no time to react and prone to getting washed out.

This right here is one of the biggest issues. Three straight games now, the opposing QBs have had enough time to write letters long hand to their grandmothers before any Seahawk jerseys were going to be in their same zip code.

I don't think Macdonald has the talent on defense but I really am not seeing an adjustment to that to help by putting more guys in the box.

If Seattle had done that, put more guys in the box as you mention, Purdy would have sliced your defense up like a Thanksgiving turkey. Period. End of story. Purdy has been doing that since he entered the starting lineup. Blitz the guy and he will positively torch you.

That said? The 49ers exploited a weakness in the Seahawks run defense. That wasn't Christian MacCaffrey out there. It wasn't even his backup (Mason). Even the third string guy wasn't available. Nope. The 49ers put their trust, and all of their marbles, on a rookie. A 4th round draft choice. Bottom line? He won the game for the 49ers. That long run at the end was the gut punch moment. It was just what the 49ers needed and they got it.

But don't ever forget that the 49ers were cruising with a score of 23-3 and the Seahawks stormed back to nearly win this game. This was a lot closer than you think. Focus on that. This game could have gone either way.

At least, that's the take from this 49ers fan.

Yeah well, this team still blows, and any hope for a decent season, well just left the building...

Don't have the talent, nor coaching to go far.

Been there. Know that feeling. Know it all too well. Been rooting for the 49ers for a very long time. I have lived through "the bad years."

Seattle isn't bad. They're not great. Not yet. They could be. But they're not quite there yet. Hang in there. Season is young. I know this hurts. But, there's always a next week.

No we're bad, and our coaching is worse.

He is showing us exactly that. As the Matty Brown xit (Xitter finally paid its fines to the Brazilian government, so I can see xits again) linked in the OP points out, Macdonald's Ravens defense went from top-five against the run to 30th in the second half of last season. The main difference, of course, is that the descent into utter suckitude against the run has just been faster for the Seahawks.

Actually, we've been getting a ton of pressure on opposing QB's. It's just that pressure isn't enough anymore. QBs are drafted and started for mobility and the slippery factor. Brock Purdy did a great job yesterday at slipping out and finding the chains, and what we don't have is people who can finish their sacks.

How many pressures did we have last night? Seems like we had a ton early on in the year but as of late we haven’t been getting pressure. I could be wrong but it didn’t feel like we were making Purdy very uncomfortable last night. Did we have a ton and I just didn’t see them?

Your reach exceeds your grasp.

Guys are selling out to rush the QB but they are not controlled. Which means the QBs easily evade them and they cannot recover.

Also our entire defense takes terrible angles regularly, which exacerbates the issue above.

Agreed. Is it Macdonald fault that Love completely screwed up on the 76 yard Deebo touchdown? No.

Run defense has to be fixed. Coach needs to adapt after teams adapted to his run d.
