Don't forget we have Hultzen coming back and we can always find 2-3 guys on prove it deals to see whom pans out but really we do look good on pitching wise..

I will believe Danny Hultzen exists when I have seen it with my own two eyes...

I got to say, i'm pretty excited for the Mariners this year. I've been a very cautious fan for a long time, and this is probably the most excitement I've had in a while. I expect playoffs, anything less is a failure. I expect this team to be contending for the WS by next year. They have the talent and pitching to contend this year, but expecting a WS from a team that hasn't been to the playoffs in over a decade is asking a lot.

Agreed on all counts, although I would replace 'contending for the WS' with just 'winning the division.' I'm a big believer in the idea that the first and most important goal is just to earn the most favorable position possible for the playoffs, because once you get there, nearly anything can happen. Especially in baseball, bad teams can knock off better teams by flukes of BABIP, and you can't expect to catch all the breaks to get to the WS even as the best team.

Still, exciting year. Most exciting year since what, pre-2004? No one knew how awful the M's would be in 2004, coming off back-to-back 93-win seasons (which didn't end in playoffs because Oakland).

Anybody see the images of the skinny Jesus Montero?
It appears a fan throwing ice cream at him might have been the moment things changed. How weird.

Speaking of weight....
A marathon running friend of mine from AZ just gave Felix his physical.
She had the nerve to say how out of shape these guys are for pro athletes.
Uhm, honey, his job is throwing. He's arguably the best in the world at it.
No need for killer abs. She know very little about baseball I'd guess.

He is, if I remember, actually thinner than he was 5-10 year ago?

It was a scout for the Mariners, not a fan.

Yep, he was heavier early on in his career. You can really see it in his face.

Whoever it was, he got the message, right?

It's certainly a good start. Who knows how he'll end up playing but losing all that weight certainly won't hurt him.
