We already have two games this year to show us that it won't be like that. Plus these are division rivals, so anything is possible.

The Rams secondary is suspect; we can and have exploited that. But then ours went belly-up too during the last matchup.

Still, NFL couldn't have asked for a better NFC championship. Best two teams in the league.

This is arguably (and maybe not even arguably) the most powerhouse NFL playoff match-up in 47 years. Every football fan, regardless of which team they are a fan of, should be salivating at this upcoming game.

I'm still baffled by that game as its such an outlier and much worse defenses have been much better since that game against them. I feel confident that Macdonald will fix whatever the issue is. I don't think our scheme is susceptible to their offense or anything like that. I'm sure they will get some wins and score some points but I think its much more manageable.....At least I hope so.

Came off a short week and I think that factored in. Play a clean game and we'll win

I think the league is swinging back away from the high powered passing games and to more basic football styles, with defense and running game. A couple of decades ago, the number of games won by teams with a 100 yard rusher were statistically more common than those who threw for 300.

Schemes and player skills have improved wildly since back then, but teams are learning that a high pick QB is not such a guarantee of great success on the field as it seemed to be since about 2000 or so.

I think the short-rest (Being on a Thursday following a Sunday game) played a major role.

The first meeting where they had normal rest, they held Stafford to just 130 passing yards.

It was a total of 249 yards total offense the Defense gave up that was only that much because Kyren had 119 and a TD.

Look for this game to resemble more of the First meeting but without Kyren being as effective, and without Sam tossing freebies to the Rams.

Probably because Mcvay is as strong in his specialty (offense) as Macdonald is in his (defense). Well, almost. (hopefully :) ) These are going to be hard fought chess matches two or three times a year for a long time. Or at least until Mcvay decides to retire after Stafford does. (which reportedly almost happened)

Back to back to back. There was a stretch in the schedule we had 3 games close together a few days apart
Okay got it.

Yeah...the schedule this season at certain points didn't do us many favors.

I posted the same DVOA stuff.

This is indeed a great matchup of two great teams.

To be fair: BOTH teams came off of a short week so you cannot use that as an excuse.

(plus, McVay left our win to go have that baby. Stupid baby. Rams have never been the same again since he went to the hospital after that game).

I think this and the fact that the WR market was reset pay wise and there are that many elite WR and TE's. Just my thought is that RB's will start becoming more of the center piece of a offense. They will get paid more and owners don't have to pay QB's 80mil per year

What was the excuse in Week 11 then when the Hawks had normal rest and held Stafford to 130 yards passing? 200

Phillip Rivers really demonstrated something interesting. A middle aged Phillip Rivers came off the couch after 4 years of being retired? No practice, no arm strength, overweight, 14 kids in tow and he looked better than half the NFL QBs.

The offenses have been dumbed down and a lot of college concepts have been added.

These QBs coming out have incredible athleticism, but the ability to go through protections, check coverages, audible to the right play, make adjustments at the LOS isn’t the same.

When defenses started having a comeback there was a lot of hoopla over ‘two safety shell coverages”.

NFL passers were struggling with the Tampa 2. Now, of course part of it is they’ve become very good disguising coverages.

In Seattle for example we send only 3-4 guys rushing the passer but you never know where they’re coming from.

What I’m getting at is I’m suspecting that passers overall knowledge of the game isn’t what it used to be. Even from the likes of Mahomes I’m not seeing the same command at the LOS that guys like Brady and Manning had, or hell even Stafford.
