I wonder if there was someone else involved during that time in the decision making who maybe isn't with the organization anymore 🧐.
Cross and Lucas picks, which I consider "quality moves" were under the Carroll regime?

The Pete card only goes so far when trying to absolve all of John’s moves.

Leader, Enforcer, Best Olineman on the Seahawks and potentially one of the best RTs in game, health withstanding.

He’s my X-Factor on a team full of them, if he can stay on the field, hes going to dominate and create that domino effect of stability throughout the offense. Good extension, he worked his ass off this off-season to build himself back up and it showed as he was consistently elite in PS.

Crazy that this is the first drafted lineman we have extended since Britt!

True, but the pile was bad. Some of these guys made Sean Locklear and Chris Gray look good! Pretty sad.

Both men have pussyfooted about the exact "change in philosophy" in 2022, that has resulted in 3 amazing drafts, now. Drafts that have produced multiple starters, across the field, and will likely return us to one of the teams that has our free agents poached across the league.

At the time, we assumed Schneider largely took the reigns from Carroll, despite Pete retaining his title. While we will never know for sure, there may be some clues in the trajectory of their drafts, that won't be as subtle as Pete's draft clues.

Based purely on his play thus far, I don't see Cross as a Top Tier tackle. Probably not even Top Ten, and certainly not Top Five. Considering what he would command on the open market, and the premium the position commands, I can see Schneider dealing Cross in a sign + trade deal, tagging him for a year, or just letting him walk. Unless he takes a large step forward this year, he isn't the caliber of player that Schneider typically rewards with a 2nd contract. He whiffs too much on speed rushers around the edge for what he is going to want to demand on his next contract.
Then again, there is such a thing as continuity (if I may reply to a comment by you made yesterday)....

This seems unfair. As GM his responsibility is to acquire players that fit the profile(s) desired by his coaches. In the last 10 years we've had 5 different offensive coordinators.

What has been our offensive identity during that time? Bevell turned us into a finesse team all while paying lip service to wanting to run the ball. Schottenheimer and Waldron both found out the hard way that what their HC and QB wanted were two different things, and of course the guy taking the snaps had the ultimate veto.

Pete was all about second chances, but it meant he let people circumvent his vision and do their own thing for too long. Now that we have a HC who is uncompromising on his offensive vision, poof! -- like magic -- our OL play improves.

I don't see this as JS getting better -- the only new guy on this OL is Zabel -- it's that the players he's been drafting are finally being used as intended.
I think the fact that Schneider brought in Bradford and now that he has leadership and direction he's looking a lot better shows that it was in fact MM's predecessors not developing who JS acquired.

The hate on JS is unreal.

Kind of like my hate for Russell Wilson.

Connecting the dots ....... after years of making life difficult for the offensive line during the Russell years, Wilson was replace by Geno Smith. A quarterback most comfortable in shotgun. Inviting defensive linemen to tee off and sell out for the pass rush. In anticipation of what was coming, two offensive tackles (Cross & Lucas) were selected from college Air Raid offenses during the 2022 draft. It made a whole lot sense to many of us. It also suggested that the front office was looking a couple of years ahead.

The Seahawks are in good hands.

Overpaid, overrated and overmatched. Re-signing Lucas was a questionable move
