That's a great deal for a potential top young RT. We will still have to see the guarantees to know how it fully plays out but to have incentives, most likely tied to playing time is nice. If he continues to stay healthy, and I do believe that injury is behind him, this could be a solid step towards stabilizing that offensive line.

Funnily enough JS was on the Insiders yesterday and they asked him if he was working on any deals and he joked around but basically said he wasn’t saying anything about that. Now today the announcement.

Word is he's been practicing with no brace or type of support whatsoever. Hopefully that means he's back to form. This ext would indicate so.

If he's healthy this is great timing as he is only going to get more expensive. I'd still like to see something done long term with Cross.
Based purely on his play thus far, I don't see Cross as a Top Tier tackle. Probably not even Top Ten, and certainly not Top Five. Considering what he would command on the open market, and the premium the position commands, I can see Schneider dealing Cross in a sign + trade deal, tagging him for a year, or just letting him walk. Unless he takes a large step forward this year, he isn't the caliber of player that Schneider typically rewards with a 2nd contract. He whiffs too much on speed rushers around the edge for what he is going to want to demand on his next contract.

I think the Cross deal will get done, and with the 5th year option + potential for the tag thereafter it is relatively clear cut what that term+$ will ultimately be for a player of his youth at that premium position. Less urgency to get that one done.

I think the variance in outcomes for Abe this season is reflected in the relatively short 3-year term. If Abe had remained unsigned, and stayed healthy all year, and played to his pre-injury standard you're probably look at just under top tier Sewell type money in the RT market. Seahawks mitigated that possibility with this extension by taking on some possible injury risk. Whereas if Abe's injuries are behind him, the 3 year term allows him another chance at a bigger extension in his prime. The length reflects give and take on both sides, and makes a lot of sense. 3 year steal if healthy though.
