Since this team is know for risk taking and utilizing personnel in a unique way, what about devolping Lotulelei at FS/SS aka Polamalu? Could be interesting.

I think you might be fooling yourself about his footspeed.

Yeah........ I think this thought probably has more to do with similar hairstyles than similar skill sets. Loto has like 50lbs on Polo.

I have been thinking exactly this. He ran really poor 40's but anyone that has watched him can see that he plays much faster than his 40 suggests.

He is probably not a good fit for the FS position but maybe he could be groomed into a good backup for Kam? He doesn't have the height but even if he dropped a few pounds and played at 225 he would be plenty big enough to lay some hat (which is already his style of play). And on paper he's about the same speed as Kam at around a 4.6 40 time, but again I think he plays a lot faster then that and may have simply had poor form in his 40 yard dashes...

Anyways, I think it's worth a look because of our depth at LB. I think if he stays at LB unfortunately he won't make the team. However there could be an open spot at SS with Winston Guy's recent woes.

I don't think Lotulelei would have the long distance speed. Even 6'4", 220 pound Brandon Browner has good long distance speed. I'm not really seeing the instincts for safety either.

probably would'nt play that good in space he's best at LB let him put on a few pounds learn the system and he'll be a good LB/special teams stud.

I've just never got on board with this guy. Yes he plays ok but makes me think more of the guy that went to Harvard and was released and went to the Rams for a while.

He seems to get into plays ok but to me is a bit cavalier about staying his own spot on the field now and then. A dangerous way to play because the other team will start exploiting his leaving his spot and run plays through that spot.

Lets hope I'm all wet as usual.

If you watched Lotuleilei play in college you'd be dying to get him a spot on this team... anywhere. I think the comparisons to Kaz are a bit off because what you're seeing now is a "high effort" player. Kaz was too. But Kaz also wasn't anywhere near as physically gifted as Lotu is. His college career was very much like Rufus Porter's. He was that kind of player. He wasn't a "thinking man's middle linebacker/lunchpail carrying joe who went to Harvard". He went to UNLV and smashed the crap out of anything that came his way and did it quite well just going full bore, because that's all they asked him to do.

He's the classic poly player I was speaking of the other day in Siliga. A kid who played on instinct and strength, intensity and brute force without the benefit of great coaching. Now you have a talented kid who is getting coached up for the first time in his life over the past few weeks (UNLV's coaches are fine... they just aren't NFL coaches for a reason and they aren't coaching in the SEC for a reason).

The kid is making plays with sheer instinct and talent right now. He has not absorbed the system. If you don't get him onto the practice squad then he'll go elsewhere and play and my gut tells me he'll make some noise, even if it is purely on special teams and as a backup/situational player (even a disguised situational pass rusher).

He went to a smaller/low visibility school and still played at an elite level against some very good players and made them look like children. I think he's got the skills to become a special teams demon like Fredd Young and Rufus were and then move into a spot where he can succeed when he gets the fundamentals and the system down and has a chance to learn in practice and at game speed.

Doesn't have anywhere near the speed, range and ball skills to play safety. Would be a total liability. WLB is exactly where he should be.

Except there is no spot for him. Herein lies the problem.

I think he may get a thought at Farwell's roster spot, but I am thinking he is probably targeted for practice squad (or as I still always call it... the taxi squad, which is what they used to call it).

I just don't see any way we sneak him onto the PS. We already had to make him the highest paid UDFA just to get him here. Someone will claim him no doubt.
