I suppose it's just a two-game sample, and NFL history has no shortage of average players who looked superhuman for two-game stretches, but it looks as though I might have been guilty of underselling Cross' ceiling. I was just kind of lukewarm on the pick originally (I was calling for Trevor Penning, who didn't go until ten picks later), and expressed a few times this past offseason that I saw Cross as a fringe top-12 kind of guy: not elite, but good enough where it's not worth the trouble to try to replace him.

I compared him to Russell Okung in that regard, which certainly wouldn't be a bad outcome for him, but he's looking like he might be on his way to becoming the second-best LT in Seahawks history. And that would be great in the sense that like Harry Carson shouldn't be ashamed to be considered the second-best LB in Giants history.

I like Cross and I think he’s a pretty good tackle but this is where stats skew reality a bit. The right side of our line is the weak link so teams are going to bring more pressure from that side.

Don’t take this as a criticism of Cross because it’s still a great stat, I just wanted to add a little context to it.
