I don't see the big deal here. I feel like we see this type of hit every week now.

It's still cool, but I don't see how it even compares to the Beast Quake.

Largent has always been a fan favorite and earlier the same season Harden took Largent out of the game on a violent shot to the head. Every Seahawk fan was beyond pissed and hoped someone would take Harden out in the rematch. You can't imagine the emotion of that hit when it happened and was delivered by none other than Largent himself.

If you weren't around for this era I can understand how just seeing the clip wouldn't help you to understand the emotion of that hit but imagine if VD had taken Kamtrack out earlier in the season and that hit on VD was a revenge hit and consider Largents popularity was significantly larger than Kam. If you remember how exciting and satisfying the hit Kam delivered was now add in revenge by possibly the most beloved Seahawk of all time.

It was the type of moment that tears swell in your eye's from pride.

1) he's a receiver not a safety
2) it was REVENGE which is always sweeter
3) he's in the hall of fame and is overall as good as anyone who has ever caught the ball
4) it was REVENGE which is always sweeter.

Did I mention it was revenge?

Because you didn't watch Steve Largent play for 14 years.
Still doesn't explain why everyone keeps talking about this one play out his 14 years. That's all I ever hear about.

The product on the field now is much better than that and produces hits like that almost weekly. And it doesn't even come close to amazing as the Beast Quake.

1) Tate?
2) ...ok?
3) I got no problem with that. From footage I've seen, he's a hell of a player.
4) ........ok?

Edit: Just read Rich's post about the revenge part.

Not even close to being old enough for that. Sweet elementary retorts though.

The really crazy thing, if you think about it, nothing else mattered in the play except for the hit. Holding on the Defense, and if there wasn't holding on the defense, the ball didn't come out of Hardins hands until he hit the turf. I was 4 years old when I watched that play on tv with my parents, and I still remember it clear as day.

What I always find amusing in these old videos is the crowd. People are just wearing normal clothes! Not even color-coordinated. Just a bunch of fans, dressed like they're going out to buy some tires.

It's interesting how much the NFL experience has changed so much -- and how people really have changed, where they (myself included) spend money to dress up in jerseys/hats/gloves/masks/etc. before even watching a game on TV.

Long time Seahawk fans remember this play for what Largent meant to the franchise. Saw it live on ESPN and until beast mode run was my favorite moment in Seahawk history. Watching those two plays never gets old.

Another deep long lasting memory is a horrible Monday Night Football Game Nov 30, 1992. Seahawks had one win to that point. Game was decided in overtime by a Seahawk field goal. Seahawks did not score a touchdown until a last two minute drive. Cortez Kennedy was a beast on D.

The moment before the game and the raw emotion that goes to my core as part of the 12th man is when Steve Largent, Jim Zorn, and Dave Brown had to support Pete Gross as he was inducted into ring of honor. The few times I have seen the presentation still gives me chills watching it knowing now that Gross would pass three or four days later.

The reason that play by Largent was so awesome was that Hardin broke Largents jaw with a dirty hit. Watch that hit on him, he was upper cut as he was hit. IIRC, that game was Largents first game back after recovering from the broken jaw. Poetic justice, yes. My memory suck, I though Hardins hit was on the sideline..

I am old enough to remember that play, almost a shame there was a penalty in the Hawks favor.Looks to me like if there was no penalty it would be Hawks ball, but appears like the ground caused the fumble? Was the rule different back then as far as fumbles go?

Haha, nice hit by largent. Was that browner covering the intended receiver? The resemblance is uncanny.

Also, remember, the Broncos were a division rival and Hawks fans couldn't stand them. That play was fate, destiny, karma and justice all rolled up into one. You rarely ever see that happen in real life, when you do, you have to just lose your crap and praise the gods.

Yeah.. me too..

Talk about a crazy play to see live. I remember it vividly. One thing about those days were the Hawks were generally exciting to watch. Division was just crazy back then too. The team was good enough to beat anyone, but came out on the wrong side of craziness at times.
