in that vein, I'm surprised anybody takes Florio seriously. He's been generating clickbait articles for years now. His trade suggestion of Mac Jones for Trey Lance seems strange; Jones checks down frequently, which is exactly what the 49ers are trying to avoid with Lance.

I agree. Florio just traffics in rumors, does very little reporting. Sometimes his opinions are interesting, but they are just opinions.

he was a huuuuuuge reach when 49ers drafted him; 3 1sts and a 3rd for a complete project out of north dakota state. no production in his last 3 seasons. the only positive is that's he's still young (22). right now, what can the 49ers even get back from a trey lance trade? a 5th rounder? i don't see 49ers trading him this offseason. if he lights up the preseason i can see it, because that would improve his stock. but right now i don't see it.

he will be a 11m cap hit in 2024, and at this point i would be shocked if they picked up his 5th year option, which could be has as high as 22m in 2025. he really needs to progress to warrant his cost. and if he's blocked by purdy/darnold, it's going to be tough to prove his worth.
