Loved rooting for him here in Seattle the past decade. Glad he was able to find a roster where he can continue his career. It would be tough for anyone to stand out on their own next to Wagner, but KJ definitely carved out his own niche in Seahawks history.

One year deal, likely for a very low amount as the Raiders were 5 mil over the cap even before this move. It is a good landing spot for him as they have a couple of really good LBs around him and he reunites with Gus Bradley.

It's also a general reminder of why extensions are important. Psychologically few of you would want to stay at your current employer if offered an 80% pay cut and there's always going to be a personal element in contract negotiations. Once players are UFAs they are unlikely to re-sign with their current teams and I'd bet the Hawks fully expected exactly how this played out.

He had a great year last season. I expect he’ll give the Raiders something similar performance wise. No one beats Father Time but, I suspect he’ll do well still.

It was time for our team to get the younger folks in. If they can play up to par, they’ll get some valuable experience and maybe even outperform the vets in the process.

Slightly off-topic, but his family has been around the Kirkland area for a lot of years, they frequent a shop I know well. I wonder if the family will move to LV, or keep their NW residence. It's hard with kids, and if it's a 1-year deal, I wonder if it's worth it.

I'll miss watching KJ. He's been such a reliable fixture in our LBer core.

As players age with a team I think some of them want a home town premium to repay for past years where they had good years they thought they were underpaid. They settle on a number in their head and then if they don’t get it they won’t accept a smaller offer with their original team but will take much less with a different team. Not sure if I’d call it pride but there might be some of that mixed in.

We will probably see the number and not understand why we didn’t pay it to bring him back but it likely not a number he would would take from the Seahawks.

Liked KJ, but with his chronic knee he has to have a procedure on yearly and his age it's better for young players to step in and up. Year early and on top versus a year late.

Actually if I had several million in the bank, I liked my job/employer, and was near retirement, I might work for less.

Easy to say but I doubt anybody takes an 80% haircut while still near the top of their game just because.

There’s only so much money to go around due to salary cap. KJ can still play at a high level, as we saw last year. However, he’s likely in the latter days of his career due to his age. Meanwhile we have talented younger guys who are cheaper and who need to see the field while the Hawks can still get the most out of them for the money. It’s truly a business decision, and that part of the game sucks — but it’s the reality of the modern NFL.

These are the type of decisions Pete and John have to make all the time despite wanting to also be a team that values their players. It’s a balancing act. I don’t envy them.
