“Things are definitely clearer but I wouldn’t say that’s 100 percent of the reason why I’m catching the balls,’’ he said. “But it helps a lot. I’ve noticed a difference. I can track the ball a lot better, especially in crowds because the ball is dark so it could blend in a little bit.’’

That there is pretty cool, and makes me more anxious to see him in the mix in regular season. :D

Personally, I think the Lasik added a mental boost as well as physical one. If he believes he's seeing better, it might just have a psychosomatic effect where he does. Moreover, Lasik might have just given him additional confidence which is just as important to his success. If you imagine you're going to drop the ball, you probably will, and vice versa.

Having Lasik eye surgery can be a life-changer to a degree, in of by itself, because it removes a dependency that is no longer required to function in this world... meaning, the elimination of corrective eye sight measures (glasses and/or contacts).

I had Lasik surgery to both eyes back in 1999 at the age of 50. It cost me less that $1000. I had to travel up to Vancouver, BC because the surgery at that time had not been approved in the US.

One of the best decisions of my life... that along with my current wife and my decision to accept a job with my current employer almost 35 years ago.

I think you nailed it here.

One's eyesight being (probably) the single most important bodily tool, any improvement has got to add confidence across the board. I mean, if you are seeing blurry all the time, and have made adjustments in order to perform at a high or equivalent level alongside those without that defect, suddenly being able to see clearly means you instantly have advantages everywhere. Did I say that right?

I have astigmatism, far-sightedness (and just plain old-folks eyes) and refuse to get contacts because my eyes are sensitive enough. I'm constantly having to remove my glasses to clean them and un-fog them in order to see what I am doing. If I was able to eliminate having to do that twenty nine times a day, my productivity would improve tremendously. I've made adjustments across the board to enable me to see everything better like adjusting the text size on my phone and computer monitor, etc. If I got Lasik, everywhere and everything would instantly be in high definition. Somebody would have to hit me upside my head with a 2X4 to destroy my good mood.

I'm stoked Jermaine is having the success he has been coveting.

Contact sport means eyeglasses and contacts are just a terrible nuisance. It's more than a mental thing, it's a physical thing as well. I get what he is saying, though. He wants everyone to know that he feels like he had the talent and ability before and he isn't making excuses for himself. I've had several family members get the operation and I am looking forward to the day that my wife and I can do it, too.

I've never seen an operation that gets so many great reviews from everyone I know that has had it.

I had the surgery and I can honestly tell you, it's a life changer. I know it sounds cliche but it's true. Everything changed for me as far as how and when I had or didn't have to wear glasses, sun glasses, ect....

I have been debating on the surgery for years. Eventually I may have to. Get sick of wearing glasses, especially playing Softball.

I got lasik done back when I used to fight full contact (`01 to `07 in various forms). The difference before and after was amazing. I was getting punched in the face for 5 rounds (or less if I was lucky......... never got really unlucky), so obviously contacts weren't an option so I was out there with my bad eyes (I was only like a -2.5 or -3 or something like that, but it was enough to notice). The difference competing before and after was just incredible. I felt so much more confident in what I was doing being able to see everything in detail. I totally wish I had gotten it done way back when I was still playing football!

Yeah, if you can afford it you should just do it. Very best money I ever spent!

Never had Lasik, but I did recently have eye surgery for cataracts. Those who can see well, or normally, don't really understand how eyesight affects so many things.

I know for me, I was totally shocked at the improvement in color registration, as well as the overall improvement in focus and sharpness. I guess that doesn't really apply to Lasik, but still, poor eyesight is a real detriment in many, many ways. IIRC, Koren Robinson also had eye problems.

So, Kearse's statement about being able to follow the ball through the varied backgrounds you will see in a stadium makes perfect sense to me.

One other note, and I know this is true. Having poor eyesight causes a slowdown in reaction time, because one has to focus more and it can take longer to register something in your field of vision. I know that to be a fact. If you have bad eyes, you have poor hand/eye coordination.

So kudos to the kid, and I hope for big things for him.

Well eyesight and coordination of depth perception and being able to judge when something is closer or farther away allows the brain to work more effciantly. I would gues it also would help periphial vison as well, being able to see if a ball is going long or coming up short and reacting faster has to help his ability to make adjustments as well.

You'ld think the club would pop to have it done for anyone on the team who might need it if it's that much of an improvement.

Not everyone is a candidate...some depends on the shape of your eye, and a few ore conditions. It also isn't garenteed you will get 20/20 or better.

I know this is premature, but given Kearse's other talents...could Pete and John just have procured themselves another starting WR for peanuts?

I'd get it sooner rather than later. How would you feel if you waited a couple more years, and your eyes progressed to the point where you were no longer eligible?

This is exactly what I'm thinking & hoping. Talk about ridiculous. Our skill at finding talent is just unparalleled at this point, I think.

Isn't Lasik just trading one problem for another? At least for nearsighted folks like me.
I understood that my ability to read small print (I read it underneath my glasses) would go away.
Am I getting bad advice from my optometrist?

Probably. I can read fine print just fine. Does he sell you glasses too?
