I care less about his holdout than I care about him being "just a good player" when he returned.
Not at all saying I'd have taken many other players instead of him last year, but there was a marked difference in his play last year. In prior years he was a game-changing monster whose play warranted consideration of perhaps being a market outlier at SS in terms of salary. Last year, game after game I waited for his signature game-changing hit and while he had a couple hits it wasn't an every-game dramatic thing like the year before. Not at all.
I'd like to say that the good news here is that he won't hold out because his recent play gives him no leverage, but he had no leverage last year due to where he was in the contract, so while I think it's less likely I don't rule it out.
Hold out or no, if Kam doesn't return to Incredible Hulk back there our offense will need to score early and often - both in terms of the season and in terms of single games - or we can rule out Superbowl. Because without the 1 seed we're going down by double-digits in the first half of any playoff game vs. an Eastern time zone opponent.
