Why is it that no one on this message board will not "call out" Cam's behavior for what it is? A primo donna. Yesteryear in the NFL, getting a "stinger" was common place. It was never a reason to leave the field for more than the rest of the game. Now we have a player who is talking/considering retirement.....sad.

It's sad that a guy isn't playing who is one of the toughest players in the league? He could very well break his neck and be paralyzed if he plays again. Neck injuries are extremely serious. I doubt ANY of Avril or Kam's teammates consider them soft.

Certain neck injuries can be dangerous.....a "stinger" was not considered dangerous.

Just because they call it a stinger, doesn't mean that's what it is. Clearly him and Avril had much worse injuries than a basic stinger. They would be playing right now if the doctors thought they could.

My point is that one can "shop" for a Neurologist who will give you the diagnosis that you want to hear.

Good lord dude, these are NFL players, don't you think Kam's had at least 2-3 specialists look at him?..........and if he has been told to retire, or wait a long time to see what the extent of the nerve damage to his neck/shoulder area? You want him to just find some quack to tell him he's good to go which could put his health in serious peril?

Him and Avril have nothing to prove. Ballers their entire careers, and have a title, have had their big contracts etc. If they decide it's time to hang em up, who are the fans to say it's the wrong choice??

Unlike law enforcement, Fire & Rescue, or our armed forces. Many construction jobs, farming jobs, even engineering jobs require putting your body and sometimes lives on the line for a paycheck far far beneath the one an NFL player takes to the bank. I wish him the best and pray he recovers fully.

Well those positions don't require risking your body for entertainment...for one. Second, most law enforcement statistically will never fire a gun or be fired at. I'd also add that several of these positions have laws/protections and charities in place to take care of them for the rest of their lives. Although obviously, they're not taken care of nearly enough and we need far more funding. But that's another topic

NFL players simultaneously risk both their brains and their bodies. And they have little support post-career from a public that thinks they get paid too much anyway. There are a lot of football players, especially in college, who suffer devastating injuries and get no benefits or protections for the rest of their lives. They never even make it to the draft. So yes, I stand by the idea that they deserve some guaranteed contracts. The fact that law enforcement, fire & rescue, etc. don't get what they deserve is another problem all together that is our nation's failure, and shouldn't be taken out on players

End Thursday Night Football

This is why the NFL DOESN'T guarantee contracts. The ability to cut a player who's no longer performing or hurt is the ONLY thing that allows teams to get cap space alleviated to still try and compete.

Can you imagine how dire our cap situation would be next year if we couldn't cut some of these players who aren't even playing?

I know, that's the business side of it. My point is something should be guaranteed for such a dangerous profession. Where you can have brain and nerve injuries for life. Heck look what happened to Ricardo Lockette. I remember seeing it live and hoping he was actually alive

This is one of the worst posts I have ever seen on this site - and there have been a ton of bad ones.
We don't have any idea what professional athletes go through. I suggest you read the attached for some perspective - and this is just one example of many.

If someone tells you that one hit and you could be in a wheelchair, you bet you would consider being done.

I get your sentiment, for sure.............and that's why the player and his agent REALLY focus on the guaranteed portion of the contract, and signing bonus which is paid up front.

Is the NFL system perfect? Absolutely not, but for a game that's predicated on violence and not knowing the shelf life of a player's health game to game? It's a pretty damn good system.

We criticize the post and not the poster around here. So let me just say that this is the sort of post that one would normally associate with only the stupidest of sub-cretin posters. This post is beneath reproach. This post goes straight to the bottom of the dung heap of shitty posts. Honest to God man. One would normally scrape off the bottom of their shoe if they stepped in this sort of post. This post killed several of my brain cells by the fact that it entered my eyeballs. In fact, this post makes me want to stab my eyeballs with a fork just for seeing it. Damn eyeballs.

Didn't Mack Strong have to retire due a stinger?

This is so much bullshit, they called it a Stinger from the booth and Carroll from what he knew before a doctors evaluation, after the game they did state they need to have more in depth evaluation, generically speaking it was a Stinger, Avrils was a Stinger as well and he is have a Disc operated on now.

Unless you want to see a Darryl Stingley type hit to prove a players toughness and make sure he isn't bluffing and milking the franchise I suggest the type of post you just made stay in your thought process and never make it to a keyboard.

Nope the $12 million that wouldn't be fully guaranteed until next year is in fact guaranteed for injury

Are you trolling. If so, you got me. Players don't owe you anything especially a player like Kam who has put it on the line since High school. Are you that selfish that you think Kam should continue to sacrifice himself, regard less of the extent of his injuries, solely for your entertainment? Do you even have an inkling of the extent of his injuries? Please....

Friggen Times won't let me read anymore. So it is nearly $25M guaranteed essentially if he taps out after this season?

Sounds like we'd be on the hook for $12M then, or does the $$ he made this season come off that?

Percy yes, Kam no. You may spare yourself some flack to just drop this and just assume it is very serious. ;)
