The passing game is working, in part, because teams are committing to stop the run. And, play action is useless if you're not consistently running. The O-line is still struggling with run blocking, and we're missing our FB. (which confuses me - is Brady Russell that bad that we aren't still using those formations even with Outz out?)
Is it "with Outz out", or "without Outz"? Either way, I want him back!

K9 is on pace to break the 1000 yards mark again this year but he’s only averaging 13 carries per game. Give him more carries and he’ll be even better.
A bigger work load that is rolling the dice especially with a RB that has an injury history like k9..

Yeah that's another thing to consider.

Maybe the Hawks should start using him as a Receiver as well.

Kind of like that one play where Sam dumped it off to him in the middle of the field.

Yeah he got only 3 yards after that (as he was tackled immediately) but that's the way he can provide an impact if the running game isn't working.

Whatever the weaknesses in run game production, it is paying off in spades for the Darnold-JSN play action output.

They are averaging 24 yards per completion, and a 152.2 passer rating, on these plays.

That tells me that opponents are respecting, and responding to, the threat of the run.

If they start believing that Seattle can’t run the ball effectively, and start cheating toward the play action threat, I expect our run game to look better.

And that is why the Playaction still works.

Because Defenses still have to stop the run.

Otherwise, if they start going zone or something, then K9/Charbs is going to have big games.

The run-game has been inconsistent at best. Hope it gets ironed out sooner rather than later. Could end up being the factor between a good season and great one. Why are teams stacking the box against us so much this year? You'd think with Darnold on fire that wouldn't be the case.

Yeah, we could use another blocker for our backs up front. Go get one, JS.

Agreed.
I also wonder if Walker gets a little frustrated (I don't think he's showed it yet) about being the guy to help get the ball into the red zone only to have Charbs come in for him and punch it in for the touchdown most of the time.
K9 and Charbs seem to have a real good relationship so I wouldn't think it's an issue but still...I would think K9 would like a carry or two from inside the 5 every once in a while.

And those toss sweep plays to Charbs need to be taken out of the playbook. I can't recall it working yet.

Maybe the ground game gets rolling once we get Outz back? 🙏

The toss sweep to Charbs is setting up for future games, just like the 22 personnel, I formation, fullback in motion toss in game one set up a beautiful play action pass to Arroyo vs the Steelers in the next game.

Minus the left side toss sweep, the RBs should be used more as pass catchers out of the backfield. See Kamara and CMC.

We’ve gotten so used to watching Grubb, Waldron etc play checkers, that I don’t think we are recognizing the chess that Kubiak is playing.

He isn’t running plays to set up the defense for later in the game. He is running plays to set up defenses in future games.

I wouldn't be surprised to see a Milroe to Charbonnet option play with heavy personnel, that results in a big pass play downfield, at a critical juncture, later in the season.

Involving the RBs as receivers is also something I see him setting up.

Let's not have too many trick plays and then end up outsmarting ourselves in the end.

I don't like K9 for the same reason I didn't like RW. Everyone oohs and aahs when he makes a big play, but how many drives did he kill along the way giving up negative plays?

I'll take Charbonnet on a 2.0 ypc day any day. At least I have confidence if he gets the ball on 2nd down the worst case scenario will be 3rd and shorter...
