Nice to hear. Hope his knee will hold up a couple more seasons. He is still the best screen defending linebacker i've ever seen.

Bump . . . How did this get so far down the thread list? I missed it here and had to read about it on Yahoo.

Happens when your a Mod, your attention to details and relevant content gets skewed by cleaning up the garbage :)

Kinda surprised he is back but insurance I guess for if Kendricks goes to the slammer. Hope he has a year left in the tank and stays healthy.

I think it's the other way around, Wright will be here start of day one, Kendricks may have a few things to deal with and show up later. If Wrights knee becomes irritated again then we will have Kendricks coming in. If not we have a good rotation and a new look as well.

I'm surprised too, to be honest. Kind of expected him to be too expensive. Glad he's back though.

I would rather that money go to the Bobby Wagner, Russell Wilson, Jarran Reed fund. Or towards adding a pass rusher.

$11.5M APY for the Will spot w/Kendricks. Too much. I wish Seattle valued pass rushers coming off the edge as much as they valued 43 outside backers.

*EDIT* It could be better if it is mostly incentive based then it isn't that bad, but still. They need guys who can get to the QB.

Niiiiiiiiiiiiiiiice! Always better to keep our own. :2thumbs:

Takes some of the worry off the Kendricks legal situation. If he can't play, or is delayed we're still in good shape at LB.

Agreed. These are the types of deals I prefer to see this time of year. Keeping talent and adding to it with 2nd and 3rd tier free agents who aren't looking to get overpaid. Then of course we add more young talent through the draft and undrafted free agents.

For this deal, I especially like that it's a one year deal. I believe once we see the numbers, the combination of money between Wright and Kendricks will be a fair cap value for the talent we will have.

Just to correct myself here. I’d heard it was a one year deal but now I see it’s a 2 year deal

Thing is you aren't getting a pass rusher in free agency. Zadarius Smith is a slightly above average pass rusher and got 66 million.

I highlg doubt the team resigns Reed yet. Loved how he played last year but i would make him prove it.

So assuming he gets his full roster bonus, he'll count for up to $7 million this year. Sounds like a fair number IMO

He can collect up to $8 million in payments this year.

But his cap hit will be up to $5.5 million in 2019. No mention of 2020 second year salary or second year roster bonus. Just that it isn't guaranteed. However, remaining prorated signing bonus of $2.5 million is known to be on the books for 2020. We'll have to wait on OTC for 2020 numbers.

2019 SB ($2.5M of $5M) + 2019 $1.5M base + $1.5M Roster Bonus = $5.5M 2019 cap hit for KJ Wright

When does the roster bonus kick in?

I can envision a scenario where KY struggles in TC with his knee, while Kendricks gets probation, is cleared to play, and is lights out in TC. Then the Hawks cut KJ before the roster bonus kicks, possibly re-signing him to a cheaper non-guaranteed deal after he clears waivers.

The nature of the roster bonuses and how they are paid out wasn't addressed in the tweets. We will learn further details from OTC ..... probably tomorrow.

To my way of thinking, there is so much respect for KJ that the contract is a commitment ..... come what may.

I totally misread that tweet. He really will only count for $5.5 million.

As for cutting him to save the roster bonus that’s just crazy. They gave him $5 million to sign. Barring injury he’s definitely going to be on the roster to start the season

This makes me so happy! :)

I don't think other teams understand just how valuable KJ is. Apparently there wasn't any legitimate offers for his services, except from the Hawks. Pete knows his value to this team, and his commitment to players that commit to this team is one of his attributes that I love.

Looks like a very team friendly deal and more like a one year deal than a two year deal.

To me this signing is the most important defensive signing as Kendricks is still an uncertain quantity. If KJ is/can remain healthy I can see the team wanting to extend him again. He is a valuable piece of the D.
