I don't see this being discussed and I found the timing interesting

Cross has been out with hamstring injury. He was playing on his rookie contract. Hamstring injuries can definitely get worse when you play on them.

So he is out before playoffs and boom we re-sign him to $100M+ and now he is playing available for the playoffs.

Did he say that he won't play until fully healed unless he had a new contract / was it implied / just random timing / is he playing hurt risking further injury but "worth it"?

Guess we wont know, but excited to have him back

Didn't we extend him the rookie 5th year then the new contract? I don't remember. It was always gonna be Cross as our left tackle. If we could absorb some of that in the rollover is why they did it now. I don't beleive injury status has anything to do with it. It was just good timing. 👍 Both tackles locked in and super Rookie Zabel locked in for years. My 2 cents.

What are people thinking about the size of Cross's contract? $26 million per year puts him in the top 5, and I thought he'd get something more like Jordan Mailata money ($22 million). I suppose that left tackle contracts are only going to go up, and $26 million will seem like a bargain in a couple of years.

I mean, Cross is very good, but he isn't all-pro and has a history of injuries.

It's the old decision teams have to make. Is he worth the money, or is it worth the risk to see if we can find a cheaper replacement? For Cross, I think the team negotiated a good deal for him. The real question will come up when this deal is nearly done, and we have to decide whether to extend him again.

IMO

He’s solid, and anyone that is a guaranteed better player is going to cost even more.

I’m not sure we should be speculating here, it’s a reasonable deal if you’re asking me.

I think we are better judging the salary cap than the average salary. His early years of the extension are fairly low. By the time he crosses that $26 million line that won’t be so pricey league wide
