Fields doesn't have 'some holes' to his game. That would suggest a few minor issues holding back otherwise solid play.

He essentially has to be limited to one-read-and-then-run because he can't read the field at NFL speeds.

This would be one thing if there was something else about his game besides his athleticism, but there isn't really.

Basically, the argument for Fields is 'yeah, he's not good now, but what if he became good?' But you could just draft any rookie you want under that rubric. We could start Sam Howell for the same reason.

I just haven't seen anything in his game across multiple seasons now that even suggest where the improvement might come from.

Dude is just awful. If you're getting beat out of a starting job by a washed up ME3, you suck. He is not a starter in this league. There are 4 or 5 better QB's in the draft.
This, this, and this.

Joshua Hobbs the 49ers backup, 30, 6-3 220. Don't know much about him, average stats. 1.7M- he is a FA. I would negotiate with him just to drive up the price for SF. He or someone like him might be worth a 2/3 year cheap deal.

Hell, while we're dealing, let's offer the Falcons our 1st & 3rd and Howell for Penix. The Falcons pick at #15.

I honestly don't get the market for Fields....for sure there are some parts of his game that needs refinement gut the dudes only 26...he's 2 years younger than my son who is currently living with me...

Whatever millions Justin Fields wants will be a little too rich for our blood, and what can Justin Fields do that Sam Howell cannot?

He's the same age as Sam Darnold... has literally zero stats.... id rather sign Sam at a 25 contract than field at a 10

Sam Darnold vs J Fields... same age... stats state what they will

Fields has had YEARS to be "Lamar Jackson" Jackson took one year to be him..

Keep dreaming people... At that point you might as well put "Howell can I throw an int" in first string and let him throw 20 INts for at least the third pick in the draft

Fields is the better value as you can field a more complete team around him. Darnold is going to cripple the franchise with his cap number on the open market.

I don't understand what we would be hoping for with Fields. This just makes no sense to me. I mean, I think people are overestimating what a 'crippling' QB contract looks like.

Geno at $45M wouldn't have 'crippled us' and neither will Darnold at $35M (if that's what he gets). If we are trying to get a QB to win next year and beyond, I'd MUCH rather have Darnold than Fields--though I'd rather have neither.

If we are just trying to keep the seat warm for a rookie, get neither. Darnold is probably too expensive if we aren't paying Geno and Fields requires an offense be tailored to his one-read-and-run style. If we expect our rookie to be different than that, it makes no sense to sit him behind a vet who will require a completely different offensive gameplan.

Just roll with Howell at that point. If we are tanki--er, um 'rebuilding', just do it for real. If we want to win... no Fields.

This is how you know people don't watch anyone outside the Seahawks. If you loved Geno's occasional jaw-dropping dumb decision, you'll be getting five times the dysfunction with Fields.

I'd rather take a flyer on Daniel Jones, if you only have to pay the League minimum. Zach Wilson? Sam Darnold doesn't do it for me, tbh. There has got to be a ton on talent sitting on NFL rosters, that only need a shot to prove it. I would take it as a win to find a guy comparable to Hass sitting somewhere. The Hawks still need to bring a QB free agent, and draft one this year. Throw them in the organization and see who sticks for the the next couple of years while we build the D and OL. As long as whoever they bring in at QB are cheap.
