I know it does not mean much now but it drove me crazy during the game. Does anyone know what happened at the end of the 3rd quarter when Zach Miller caught a long pass and clearly went out of bounds? I saw the clock stop and then it started again. Sorry if I missed this on the game forum but its just been bugging me. There was, I think 10 sec left after he went out of bounds

I noticed that too. It didn't mean much in the grand scheme, but it struck me as odd.

That wasn't on the final possession was it?

I remember seeing it also and freaking out but it seems like it came on the second to the last drive. Might have been nice to have those extra 10 seconds back now thinking about getting into field goal range.

Them's the rules. The clock starts after they re-spot the ball when a player goes out of bounds. The only exception is the last couple minutes of the first half and five minutes of the 2nd half (I think).

Not sure if this is true. I just thought that if you went out of bounds without contact going out, it would stop. But if you make contact while going out it would run. IDK, could be way wrong.

ive never heard of the "clock stops till the spot the ball then it starts running again" but it really didn't even stop.. and in the 4th quarter it happened again on a sydney rice reception that he wasn't even touched going out of bounds....

"With the exception of the last two minutes of the first half and the last five minutes of the second half, the game clock will be restarted following a kickoff return, a player going out of bounds on a play from scrimmage, or after declined penalties when appropriate on the referee’s signal."

With the exception of!!!

Doesn't Millers play qualify for that? Meaning the clock should not have been restarted?

No, they restart the clock no matter of player being touched or not. Carroll was motioning to the other end of the field anyways, he wanted it to wind down and go to the 4th.

No, as the rules state, this is for the ends of the halves. The Miller catch referenced above was at the end of the 3rd quarter.
