If Norwood is looking great in practice by the Seahawks bye week, and Lockette continues to be integral, how would you guys feel about this hypthetical trade possibility:

Seahawks trade Jermaine Kearse to Tennessee for OL Chris Spencer and KR/PR Leon Washington.

For the Titans:
Kearse would be a great jump ball possesion WR for Jake Locker and would complement Kendell Wright and Nate Washington well.

For the Seahawks:
Spencer would be great interior line insurance to replace Jeanpierre.

And Leon Washington... yes, please report to Punt Returning duties as soon as possible.

I know many of you would hate this because you don't trust Harvin to stay healthy as well as grown a soft spot for Kearse (I know I have). But looking past the attachments, Kearse is an RFA after this season, and I think with the depth that the Seahawks have now at the position, you can afford to lose him and give Lockette, Richardson, Norwood, and Luke Willson those opportunities and chances for experience. Right now Seahawks have more than enough weapons to lose a Jermaine Kearse and be fine but have glaring weaknesses at PR and interior Line depth that sooner or later could catch up to them in a negative way.

So, would you want JS/PC to pull the trigger on that if it was available?

I don't mind the trade Kearse theory, because I think your reasoning is sound: we won't be able to retain Kearse after this year; if Norwood progresses they are the same player.

I'd want more value though. Backup OL vs. #3 WR.....and do we have a spot for purely a PR?

Norwood would have to show me a lot. Kearse is going to big for us this year, in big spots.

I like the team with Kearse as he has a good thing going with RW.

I'd rather let Kearse play out his contract and see what the WR competition looks like after the 2015 season. We have really nice, solid WR depth for the first time... ever? I'm not in such a hurry to start disassembling it.

The potential of our rookies is promising, as is the emergence of Lockette, but none of them is busting out the gate like a young Randy Moss or anything. That would be the only way I'd be comfortable moving a receiver who has established a veteran's rapport with our franchise QB, despite still being very young himself.

Kearse is very good at getting the contested ball or shielding the defender with his body. And against teams that score on us, we are going to need guys like him to answer.

We let Tate walk because of how Kearse stepped up.

I don't think pinning our hopes on a guy that never played in the NFL while giving up a productive player that happens to also be a target that defenders must account for - is helpful to Wilson at all.

Yes I know our backup center is injured and yes I know we NEED a PR. And Leon is still pretty good. But trading a productive WR for a 73 yr old return specialist in the hopes that our other WR bucks the statistics and ends up being productive his first year?

Hopefully no.

I think that you are failing to grasp how JS/PC have built this team-young and competetive. Trading for old veterans is a tactic used by new regimes (like JAX) to build a culture of winning by way of having old vets teach the younguns how the game is played. I would guess that we will see some flux in the PR duties this year with the competition coming from within. The last punt of the night had Walters as the PR. Either Earl gets a lot more work at it to perfect the position or competition Wednesdays are amped up to find another alternative.

Agreed. He can catch a ball despite having a DB slapping at his arms and draped all over his back and does so with regularity. If/When he continues this trend of being reliable, we'll see a mid-season contract extension this year.

I'm pretty sure there was more to it than this. His personal life and destructive decisions made him an ex-Hawk. Nothing has been proven, but the circumstantial evidence is overwhelming. I'd like to see our DB's get some solid targets on him if we get the chance to play Detroit.

It's not the soft spot for Kearse that should affect this decision, it's your soft spot for Leon. His return yardage has steadily decreased by 300yds per season since 2010.

Leon is not the answer. Neither is a body from the neck down the answer on the offensive line.

If you bring in a kick return specialist, that's one less player that can be active on gameday. If they're going to bring in someone to serve as a kick returner i'd prefer it was someone who plays CB rather than a player they already moved on from who takes a roster spot away from someone like Christine Michael when he comes back from his hammy.

The team moved on from Leon. Fans need to as well. This is a nostalgia move. Nothing more.

Man, there is no need for using words like "dumb" because it is based on your opinion that the OP is "massively dismissing Kearse's value" You are guessing at the OPs thoughts, and if you are wrong, then who is the "dumb" one here?

The OP voiced an opinion for discussion, and although it may have not been the case, it appears as though you are passing judgement. Reserve that for the pundits, who we all KNOW are idiots

As to the post, I think Chris Spencer is a poor option at Center and Leon is just too old. We need a punt returner for this year, and the future, that's they way Pete and John think. They don't want to damage morale by trading a player who has earned his position for stop-gap players.

I have no basis for this other than body type and the "clutch" type of catches he made in College, but I think Norwood would make an excellent punt returner ala Nate Burleson. That would be a "now and the future" type of decision which prevents the front office from having to make the same decision again later.

The reason Pete has ET at punt returner is because Earl had earned it. Thomas WANTS to be the punt returner and in his interview Pete said "he has worked hard at it." THAT is the reason Pete gave it to him, he earned it. Pete invests a lot in practice and doesn't want what precious little time they have for practice wasted.

Interesting thought though.
