Smith-Njigba now has 1541 yards. It's not what many had hoped for after 14 games but he still has an outside shot at Johnson's 1964 yards single-season record with 3 games to play.
2 games, Johnson's record was set in 16 games, I think I'm the only
one who views records in this way but it's only fair right?

Yeah, nobody's gonna care if it takes him more than 16 games to pass 1964.

Do you remember any of the 14-game season records? (They predate my fandom). If Smith-Njigba finishes a bit short after 16 games but then has a massive Week 18 performance to go well ahead would it change people's perspectives? If that happened would you accept the next player to break the NEW record when the NFL changes to 18 games? For me, none of this detracts from records set in the past. Someone will eventually break Dickerson's rushing yardage record. I'm just going to enjoy the moments.

Did you know OJs rushing record in 14 games took 16 games to break?
Funny fact..
I could look up the other 14 game records (I'm not) but how is breaking a
record like Johnsons a record if it took you more games.
He didn't get 17 or 18 games to increase his total, so why is that right?
I'm all for the records being changed to reflect the number of games, it's
only fair to the players who set the record.

I'm going to care.. I want him to pass it but if it takes 17 games, then it's
a 17-game record which he will hold until someone does it in 18 and maybe
then somebody will see what I mean.

I know what you're saying. I respect what you're saying. I'm just not concerned about it. I don't care about Simpson's record since it was artificially created. I'm not concerned about the 17-game season records either. The NFL of the 2020s is different to the 2000s, which was different to the 1980s. I've enjoyed most of it.
