Are punters "athletes"?

From my perspective NFL punters are elite athletes, but they are specialists.

Athleticism is the ability to generate a lot of power efficiently. Even tubby NFL lineman offensive lineman have vertical jumps that are significantly higher than the normal population. Olympic-level shot putters are elite athletes, but they usually aren't built to play in the NFL.

I always get a little irritated when people say that the kickers aren't athletes, or aren't real football players. I'm pleased that both of our specialists have proven that they can actually tackle on kick/punt returns. And after seeing their tackling form, I would assume they participate in the tackling drills in practice. They both do pretty well when required.

I was super scared he was gonna be done for the day "in concussion protocol" whatever the hell that means. With the weather definitely needed our punter to play field position.
