Yeah, kinda sucks, especially since we've bit by the injury bug in the DB room. :(

I don’t know how the process works technically.

I wonder how much time is available, and if you could move a scrub up from practice squad, waive him etc.

Maybe release a guy from practice while protecting a guy like Reed?

Anyone know the technical details?

I think the Seahawks can keep him by signing him to the 53 within a day or so.

If I understand it correctly, Reed was on the active roster (promoted from PS earlier). Hawks needed to make room for Shaheed and released Reed...I'm 100% usre they planned to add him back to the PS as they've utilized the 70-player team masterfully this year. The PS has been roteated steadily with the active througout the season w/o any poaching.

When you add a player through trade, I think it heightens the awareness of teams to see who's released to make room. Considering how our depth players have performed, I'm not surprised the Titans would grab a player like Reed...he'll be cheap and brings in a culture I'm sure they want in the locker room.

Is it fact that any player on a practice squad can be picked up by another team at any time?

If so, that’s something I didn’t know.
Not sure how I didn’t know after all these years.

Bummer. Dude is a baller on ST and a nice depth player.

Bound to happen when you use the practice squad as a true extension of the regular team. That's not a knock on the team, just that it's inevitable if you're trying to keep nfl-caliber players on the practice squad.

Yes, but they have to add them to the active roster before attempting to place them on *their* practice squad.
And yes this has been the way for many years. The reason it doesn't happen very often is because there is kind of an unspoken rule that you don't poach other players unless you *really* want them on your roster. You aren't supposed to poach other PS players if your end goal is to simply have them on your PS.

I guess I was under the assumption that there were more hoops to jump through than that.

When pulling directly from the PS, I think the host team has the option to immediately add the player to the active roster to stop the poach, but not positive.

Does the “poached” player not have any say? Is it like a job offer where you can say yes or no? Or is it more like the draft where the poached player has to deal with playing with a contender to a team that will probably have the number one pick in 2026?

They are under contract, so their only choice is to accept it or hold out. Not a lot of leverage for a practice squad player there.

If a team signs a player from a practice squad then they are required to keep him on the 53 man roster for a minimum of 3 weeks.

Of course Reed had been in our active roster and was waived so he was claimed on the waiver wire so all they have to do is assume his current contract which is t that much.

Good question. I don't believe they have a say in it, but because of the $$$ I don't think I've ever heard of a player wanting to avoid being poached. As a practice squad player you're fighting for a chance to earn a real game check, so getting poached is a promotion

Yea, moving from a practice squad to active roster is a decent upgrade.

It’s unfortunate that said upgrade might be to a terrible team

Rich people problems. This is what happens when you have a good roster and the bottom of your roster is better than what other teams have on their 53. This used to happen a lot during the glory days 2012-2015.
