Be that as it may, he still would have been better than his replacements.
Pete had a problem with being flippant about some things, and always getting burned by his lack of attention to detail.
I didn't see us having that problem with Mike (I'll be forever Mackin') Macdonald
My favorite example was Pete being asked about his players being affected by the heat and humidity in San Diego. Pete replied: "They have to play in it too!"
Yes Pete, and I spent most of my life in areas of Alaska that regularly hit -45f in the winter, and sometimes -65f. Anybody should be able to work outside in those temperatures if I can.
I'll never forget seeing assistant coaches holding 4' x 8' white boards over our players heads for shade, the never ending IVs for Seahawks players in their dark uniforms, and all the fans, price tags still attached, going non stop.
Despite all of his success, the Seahawks could have been so much better if Pete wild have delegated an issue to someone, making it high priority, the second he issued a flippant response to a question about it. That flippancy may have been a subconscious effort to warn Pete that something very important was about to be overlooked.
Don't get me wrong, I love Pete, and the success we enjoyed because of him. But I think there were too many times, when Pete was having fun playing head coach, that he overlooked important issues, such as having crap assistants, and allowing them to have way to much influence over drafts, and free agent signings. I'm looking at you Tom Cable.
