he's had this problem since game 1 in college. Saban even benched him a game for not. He never really fixed it even though he knew it was a problem then. So while acknowledging it is good there needs to be something more. My biggest concern with Jalen in college was that he never maintained focus. He was good with turnovers post benching for a few games then it just suddenly reappeared. Honestly I think he needs tough love and not to be coddled when he screw up.

Milroe had remarkable fumble problems at college. This is the number one thing I worry about him, as he has small hands. Is it fixable or is it something that just comes with not having huge palms?
Yeah 6 fumbles in his 2023 season and 6 fumbles in 2024. It's fixable with technique improvement, strength training, awareness and focus.

FWIW, Lamar Jackson fumbled 10 times in 2024 and lost 5 of those.

1000% i think the kid did the best he could with what he had out there, and post game he did good recognizing what else he needs to work on.
Exactly. If you watch the first "fumble" he was wrapped up and held up from behind by two bigs and another around his legs allowing yet another to punch and dig the ball out of his grasp. I don't believe there is much of anyone who could have prevented losing possession of the ball in that situation.
If Milroe had been playing with better supporting cast I think his performance would have presented much different assessments of his true level of readiness.

As usual, I’ll be in the negative minority here, but I was beyond disappointed with Milroe yesterday, and all pre season.

His speed doesn’t flash, he looks to have average at best speed. Linebackers were keeping pace with him, backup linebackers no less.

The team took a swing on him with a third round pick, and that’s fine. I’m not upset about the pick. But to be completely honest, I don’t see him being anything more than a gadget guy for the entirety of his career. You either have it, or you don’t, and Milroe doesn’t have it.

When Wilson came in as a rookie, he had it. He popped. You could tell he was head and shoulders above the backups he was going against. Milroe isn’t there and will never be there. His fumble issues have always been a problem, and there’s only so much lip service the guy can give.

It’s time for this team to look for a true franchise quarterback in next year’s draft. Banking on Milroe being “the guy” and QBOTF is a huge mistake.

It wasn't a pretty game to watch and was obviously marred by his fumbles in the first half. But if you go back and watch every one of his plays, he definitely flashed. He was close to but hasn't thrown a pick all preseason. And those QB sneaks look unstoppable (unless you fumble). It's a game of inches, but how different would the perception have been if he hadn't of fumbled in those opening drives and then connected with Cody White at 4:19 in this video.

Anyway, I think he's had a successful preseason. Now he gets to sit back (maybe run some sneaks and read option), continue to work on his mechanics with his trainer, practice with the team, and watch Sam Darnold and film for an entire calendar year.

I fully agree with this. Yet, I was expecting more in the preseason games. Especially from scrambling and running. Now he looked like a practice squad QB passing the ball. Anyway, he now has some experience under his belt and I’m still enthusiastic to see how he develops until the next preseason. No reason to quit on the guy.

I think he could be something with 2-3 years of sitting and developing, but as you
see on here and the media, people can't wait for good things, they want to force it
like AR9 and then blame it on the team.
Another thing and thanks to Me3/Lamar, the dual thing is not such a big deal as NFL
defenses have vastly improved on covering such QBs with exotic zones with a spy
on QB, so he needs to sit and really learn-There is a reason he was drafted in the 3rd
round and no team "missed" anything, he's a long-term project.

I'm fine with trying to develop a QB and clearly that's what they are doing. Right now, there isn't anything that makes me sit up and say " ooh, Ok I get it". Looks to have a decent arm and his accuracy has improved so there is that. What was his completion percentage? 54% isn't great.

54%… some franchises which shall not be named use that number as goal for success…

The first fumble I can forgive because of the circumstances.

The next two, though..... 200

Gonna be quite difficult to get one if we're picking in the late 20s, though....

It's amusing to me that people are talking about Anthony Richardson, when it would seem the most obvious comparable we could hope for would be Jordan Love of the Packers. Sat behind Aaron Rodgers for a few years, then got his shot, and is doing well as QB1 for them. God forbid that his ceiling should be Trey Lance.

Would love for Sam Darnold to be our Aaron Rodgers (but less douchey).

Winning a SuperBowl? Sign me up for that.

Have you seen GBs record since Love got paid?
I would encourage you to look at it, some QBs it just does not matter.

IMHO if you put any current 1st string QB from any other team behind the line that Milroe had during that 3rd preseason game, results would have been very similar for sure. I think MacDonald wanted to see how his future QB could handle the pressure and in all fairness, I think Milroe handled fairly well, regardless of the outcome of the game.

He just seemed really nervous and tentative. Afraid to cut it loose and sticking to the script even when it broke down. I guess we'll see what happens next preseason with another year of learning.
