I really wish there was a time limit for when refs could throw flags. I watch a lot of other NFL games and notice that the flags for almost all other games come out the minute the infraction has occurred. With us, they usually wait until the play finishes (to see if the flag is gonna hurt us enough) THEN they call it.

if you see pass OPI on the 50 yard line why call it in the end zone 10 seconds later?
you saw PI right? call it then.

I feel like they debate in their heads whether or not there was enough contact to justify the flag.. And i feel that yes, the crowd and reacting players do play a factor in that decision

I feel you, but why not use that debate system when determining DPI on catchable balls? it just seems like a cop out from the refs who btw have made the exact same horrible calls the replacement refs did (I have been keeping an eye on them since their return).

Agreed, and glad to have you monitoring this situation closely.

They should have a phone-number like golf so we could call in penalties...

No? :)

The crowd sure got them that last PI on Sherman that got the Colts that last TD.

To be fair, the announcers and the TV crews are having a hard time seeing those stupid pink flags. They don't show up as quickly as the yellow ones do. They really need to quit being cute and get rid of them.

Bad calls are part of football. Sorry, but there's no way to remove an arbitrary judgement call from the game. The hope is over the course of a season the good calls equal or outweigh the bad.

We did not, and I repeat DID NOT lose yesterday because of poor officiating. We lost because we settled for FG's, made stupid mistakes like not having enough (or too many) players on the field, couldn't protect Russell, poor defensive back play and couldn't stop the Colts on 3rd down the ENTIRE 2nd half.

I agree.

The only problem I have with this in regards to this past game

is that the offensive PI call on Tate wasn't even arbitrary, it was just false. There was nothing to debate. There was no PI. 100% phantom call. When offensive PI call is made it's blatant, this wasn't even existant. So there wasn't even an arbitrary judgement call made. They saw something that didn't even exist.

No one said it was the only reason, but to say it wasn't part of the reason is either ignorant or you are trying to be contrarian.

What if the refs would have called a personal foul on Clem for smacking Luck in the helmet when he stripped him of the ball? Why is no one mentioning that call when criticizing the refs yesterday?

So no, the refs were not part of the reason we lost yesterday. It was maybe 60/40 to the Colts advantage vs. our advantage for bad calls. Surely not enough to be a reason we lost.

Ref complaining is bush league.......and it only happens on this forum after a loss. Which proves my point. No one was complaining here after Tate's Immaculate Interception last year.

Here's a simple thing the NFL could drive the point on in the off-season:

If you have to think about throwing the flag, don't throw it.

Especially with pass interference and holding. A little bit of this happens on every play. Bottom line, did it truly impede the other guy from making a play? Was it so blatant that there was no other choice but to call it?

The more ticky-tacky you get with calls, the much higher risk there is of missing things and creating scenarios like yesterday, where one side has a bonafide reason to gripe. Bottom line, it ruins/lessens the product on the field.

And I get it, there will always be gripes about officiating. A good official is like a good O-lineman, you shouldn't hear about him, because when you do, it's usually negative.

You must be kidding. I call out bad calls after wins too. There were numerous bad calls against Seattle in the first half of the SF win. In the blow-out win at Carolina, before the infamous Super Bowl XL, there were scads of bad calls against Seattle. Remember the clip on Steve Smith's punt return where the flag was picked up, but replays showed that there indeed was a clip and it was the block that sprung Smith's run?

Please don't tell other fans how to be fans. Bill Barnwell said the officiating was horrible. Indy fans on r/nfl agreed the officiating was horrible. What are the odds that the horrible officiating just happened to balance out? Very slim. We're not on the team, so no need for false macho BS here.

Mike Pereira said it was a close play and "borderline". Rulebook says it must be a "forcible blow" to the head. It may be debatable, but that certainly wasn't a bad no-call.

Most of the PI calls against us on both sides were garbage. Maybe they felt like they needed to make up for ones that were missed in prior games.

Well said. Can't make an imperfect game perfect. Refs are human and will make mistakes from time to time. Besides, I don't remember anyone on this board getting all fired up about the refs when they missed the push off call from Golden Tate's Fail Mary last year. Everyone only seems to get their panties in a wad when it doesn't go our way.

With that being said, I'll add to what Sgt said. Settling for field goals and not converting on third down screwed us over. Not having Miller was a big factor IMO.

It has been mentioned multiple times whenever this topic comes up...read more threads, and don't assume before asking about that call. That's the one call that went against the Colts that is worth mentioning in the same conversation as the PIs & 12 men on the field.

I would've guessed only visiting trolls would claim something so illogical. Your two sentences conflict with each other. Here is the logic -

1. (General truth) When officials' bad calls favor one team, that gives that team a non-zero advantage.
2. (Your truth) "It was maybe 60/40 to the Colts advantage vs. our advantage for bad calls."
3. (Specific truth) The officials' bad calls overall gave the Colts an advantage.

Also, your usage of the word "So" is a logical word that means the previous statement proves the next. In other words, you are saying that one bad call in favor of the Seahawks proves that the Colts did not have an advantage. That doesn't make sense either - I challenge you to come up with any general truth that enables that logical leap.

You'll probably ignore this, meh. But that is how I read your post, and it is nonsensical.

its not that hard to make officials full time and require some form of uniformity in training.
people act like this is something that will take a big push. this is what the NFL was fighting for with the referee strike, and if the whole point of getting the real refs back was because the scabs brought the integrity of the game in question, what is the point of the real refs if they do the same thing.

i'm not saying we lost because of the refs. what I am saying is that was a even game played down the line but playing against a good team AND bad officiating is like running in 2X gravity.

I watched that game again and I swear these looked like the refs from remember the titans.

then that would have been a good call. if the refs had seen that they would have called it.

So no, the refs were not part of the reason we lost yesterday. It was maybe 60/40 to the Colts advantage vs. our advantage for bad calls. Surely not enough to be a reason we lost.

The refs denied an entire touchdown at the beginning of the game and put the colts in field goal range at the end. that's 10 points. not to mention the 3rd down conversions on phantom pi's.

WE didn't have to complain because the entire nation did it for us.
