The Cardinals had nothing technically to play for last night but they played trying to win. Not to wave the white flag and look to next year. I'm good with that.
No team goes out there and tries to lose. Just different things are prioritized depending on the circumstances. I'm sure there were things the Cards would have done differently last night had they still been alive for the playoffs.

Ok. But I feel like alot of the discussion here has been about the Hawks not trying to win their final game because of injuries, draft positioning, etc.

Is there a difference between "trying to lose" and "not trying to win."

To me "not trying to win" just means not pulling out all the stops to do it. Priorities have shifted and I think there's more value at this point in seeing what the young guys and backups can do with the snaps, while preventing our more critical players from suffering injuries that could jeopardize next season. If the backups win, great. If they don't, whatever. Whether we're better off losing is mostly a fan discussion. Nobody is going to be telling those backups to go out there and halfass it against the Rams' backups. A lot of them are going to be more motivated to put in the effort than the starters anyway.

Trying to lose should get you banned from the NFL and probably involves gambling. Not trying to win involves a lot more “business decisions”

I'm not bitter towards anyone. Just expressing a different opinion.

I try to be optimistic and hopeful until there is zero chance. I enjoy watching the team play and will value any opportunity for one more game.

The many, many years as a Hawks fan have led me to the place where I try to find optimism and hope in the smallest of things with the team. Even when the team has had low win seasons I would root and hope for a win every single game.

It's difficult for me to ever be a "don't try, throw in the towel, choose to lose" kind of fan no matter what the situation or season looks like.

I get that and I apologize for coming off as I did. I just see things differently now I guess. Years ago I was the same and held out hope no matter how small it was. Now it's more just accepting things as they are. Seattle is a mediocre team that hasen't sprung any hope in me since about 2017. I just can't foresee any type of win or run even if they did make the post season. Just to many weaknesses.

Perhaps you can look at it as sacraficing now for a better chance of improving your team for next season..therefore better draft position etc.. although not much left to sacrifice this season for us

They aren't going to try and lose next week's game. I highly expect Geno and the starters to play and give maximum effort. I think many are saying that it really doesn't matter whatever the outcome may be and that losing that game has an actual benefit. That's all.

I appreciate that. I definitely have those times when I catch myself looking at things like that. It may truly be the reality. But I like to hope either it's not really or that it turns around sometime soon.
