In my humble opinion I don't think he is a top tier LT like many on here believes. He is good but not great. What's up with these penalties he's been getting as of late?

Discuss.

I don't think anyone on this board thinks Okung is upper echelon, let alone elite.

He's just a good starting LT. Nothing special.

I think when Okung shut down Julius Peppers and others as a rookie, we all got excited, but since then he has grown into an above-average LT who is prone to penalties. That in itself is still valuable, but no, not elite.

did you watch the game tonight? he is a below average left tackle and is probably hurting our offense more than he is helping it at this point.

Elite....no. Better than average, not sure. Seems he makes too many mistakes to be better than average.

Agree with this completely. I defended Okung a lot earlier in his career, and when he's healthy, he still plays at an above average level (albeit a level that is also good for 2 holding penalties per game). But when he's less than 100%, which seems to be the case far too often, it's just bad.

Then again, it seemed that every guy on our line made pretty significant mistakes tonight at various points. We had 2 TDs called back due to the O-line. If Seattle fails to make it back to the SB this year, it's incredibly likely that Okung and his line-mates are the cause.

And honestly, I'm starting to wonder a bit about Cable. That many penalties usually suggests a poorly-coached unit.

Elite OTs can handle speed rushers, but that is a not so much situation for Okung.

Besides that he takes a lot of stupid penalties.

The OLine would be exposed, especially Okung w/o Wilson.

I think we all know where Wilson's contract is coming from.

This. I am also thinking Cable has not done a good job of instilling discipline with his unit. He has only one job to do and that's to get the line doing it's job well. He is failing this year. If the O-Line holds us back this year I think his job should be on the line. But with PC you just never know.

He's not terrible. If he was, we would know it and threads like these wouldn't exist. Do we risk becoming terrible at that position by letting him go?

He has no confidence in his legs and movement skills since those injuries. It is mind-blowing the number of false starts he has because he knows his wheels are useless. Cable seemed to get enough from the OL to be barely acceptable. But this is what the one Raiders fan was saying the year Cable came on-board. Most pooh-poohed him (me included) but seems he was right about a lot of things he spoke about with how Cable's OLs perform.

Pass protection is just not good and what is up with center? I haven't seen a complete game where the fear of a turnover hasn't been prominent with our center exchange. These guys are going to get the QB killed.
