I mean, I'm a total fanboy but it wasn't like I was surprised. The story is a little familiar isn't it?

1) We come out flat in the first half.
2) The Offensive line play isn't very good (lots' of Wilson scrambling)(Carp = Lazy)
3) Plenty of Wilson overthrows.
4) No Clemons = no pass rush.

I would have to go back and look but, sheesh, it seemed they tried to run Lynch with no FB support and it really showed. A 2.5 yard average for Lynch? I'm not going to say no Mike Rob is affecting the team, but it will be interesting to see how this plays out (not that Mike Rob would be playing right now with his virus).

It looked like Kuechly would just sit on either Marshawn, or Wilson (not rushing Wilson, just sitting on him). That was his assignment and it seemed really, really effective. Not a lot of Mike's with Kuechly's talent, but boy this little nugget in the game made me nervous.

I guess the bottom line is, this is effectively the same team, but possibly a little weaker?

Anyone out there not really surprised?

Russell overthrows? pretty much the only passes that were incomplete were either drops or pressure induced. Other than I agree. Especially with #2. But u know what, they won in week 1 on the road at 10AM. Just enjoy 1-0

I'm not surprised. I think that it is a case of Carolina playing at home and at 10am. Their strength really attacks our weakness with the great front seven, but it is a relative weakness. We still were superior. Wilson holds on to the ball a little to long and really taxes the O-line.

Also, you can see how many teams came out and played ugly (like the Giants right now). There are a lot of kinks being worked out right now.

It kind of reminds me of the early game against the Cards last year. Just played ugly and didn't win in that one. Today we played perhaps a worst case scenario (East Coast, pretty good team), we played a little ugly and we were the better team.

I am encouraged by it, if anything. That's just me, though.

He had two over throws early in the game.

Not sure where the little weaker is coming from.

I posted this in another thread, but Carolina was held to 100 yards less and 15 points below their 2012 averages. The defense wasn't particularly flashy, but when you look at the numbers, the defense dominated without their top three DE's and without a starting CB.

Weaker? Pfft...if they repeat this performance all year they'll be on par with the 85 bears and 00 Ravens as the greatest defenses of all time.

I'm not surprised by the overreactions on this board. I don't agree with anything you said above.

10 am east coast game? I'm just shocked we won! And we still have 4 more to go, against arguably superior opponents than the Panthers. Damn the anti-Seahawks, east-coast schedulers!!! ARGHHHH!!!!

I don't see 2 as being plenty but all right, I didn't see them but I think you're probably right

What, you think the Panthers front four had nothing at all to do with any of this?

Sorry, but as much as I liked M-Rob, I don't blame today's performance on his absence. His purported replacement has skills in the other areas that Mike wasn't as good at, like receiving and running. I'm not going to blame a perceived drop in blocking perfomance on his absence, either. I'll give credit where it's due, on one of the best front defensive 7's in the league.

There's a lot to work on after the Carolina game, but I think that re-signing Mike won't be on the to do list.

It's early in the season, and we just overcame one of the toughest opponents and situations we'll face this year. I'm happy about the win, and I know that the coaches and players will be watching film and working on the real problems they need to.

trust me a full back wouldn't have helped anything. That run blocking was putrid on the o-line. But I'm not concerned cause I know they can run block, pass blocking is a concern. I think u have to credit the panthers on this one

I'm impressed. We have Oline issues we need to fix but.... anytime you win on the road, that's big. Anytime you only score 12 points and still win, that's big. You take the positives out a win and continue to work on what you need to work on. It's a win, fellas.

Carolina's front 7 and their DL is arguably top 5 in the NFL. They are no slouch.

I am not surprised that they went on the road and beat a team celebrating their home opener.

I am not surprised that they were able to overcome not playing their best and yet still won.

Nope, I am not surprised at all.

The 5-0
Not shocked, not pleasantly surprised. On paper, I felt we were a 6 pt better team @ Carolina. But I must admit, I didn't think finding the end zone would be such a struggle for us.

All good because sleep will come much easier tonight, knowing both my Hawks and Dawgs are not only undefeated...but sitting atop their respective divisions / conferences, with no predicted change to that forecasted for the near future. ; )

Go Hawks. Go Dawgs. Sleep is good.

We left 7 points on the field with a first and goal fumble, 19-7 would have filtered a lot of the negativity IMO.

Oh for sure. Carolina played a great game. If it weren't for the same two shots down field we could have lost. Russell still went for 340 yds and a TD. Not complaining, just not surprised. Any win on the road is a great win.

I said before the game all of the following:

We'd (probably) win, but it would be ugly and close.

We probably wouldn't rush for jack.

Carolina's defense is really good. Their front seven is elite.

Wilson would show signs of early rust before waking up in the 2nd half.

Cam Newton would have garbage stats, and that's basically the very reason I thought we'd win.

Our defense would look somewhat flat in the 1st half before improving in the second half.

----

The only thing I didn't see coming was Carolina's rush offense. They got about twice as many rushing yards on us as I was expecting.
