So I saw a tweet by Winslow Sunday night, so I responded to him by saying "Sure could have used you this year Kellen, you would have made a difference what with McCoy not being a consistent enough #2."

He sent me back two private messages, so I must have hit a nerve. The messages were;

1. "Thanks, but I'm not a 2, I'm a 1."
2. "Number 2's don't catch 70 balls a year."

I didn't respond to either, my intention wasn't to make him mad. Just wanted to tell him we could have used him. But doesn't his messages to me shed some light on why he didn't accept the lower offer and play here? Obviously the dude still thinks he's a #1 TE, and therefore deserves five million a year.

If he truly "deserves" it, he would have earned it... but he didn't... and doesn't.

Crazy. You should respond and say #1's also don't find themselves cut/trade by 3 different teams in a season, and on the couch watching football.

A true #1 has a better attitude than that. Sounds like a spoiled brat.

It's a shame because, when the Seahawks were out of contention, my favorite "other" team was the Chargers during the Air Coryell years. Watching Air Coryell was amazing. Fouts, Winslow, Branch, and Chandler were amazing to see. You young kids need to watch some on ESPN classic if you haven't. The first team with two receivers AND the tight end go over 1000 yards. They were a rival but they had no defense (why they never won it all), but with a team exciting as they were to watch it was impossible for me to hate them like I did the Raiders, Broncos and Chiefs.

A shame that the son couldn't play like his father, and then is too flippin' arrogant to admit it. Oh well, it's his career.

How much does staying at home pay?

I agree. #1's don't sit on their couch all year waiting for a phone call. #delusional

Just wish it would have worked out, cause I think Winslow would have made a big difference. I hope we upgrade the #2 TE position next year. We can't count on McCoy.

I don't think he didn't accept the lower offer, but he WAS cut. But I do imagine it was a result of an attitude problem.

http://sports.yahoo.com/news/nfl--matt- ... -job-.html

Later in the spring, during OTAs, Wilson threw a touchdown on a corner route to veteran tight end Kellen Winslow, who'd recently been acquired in a trade with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. As Winslow jogged back toward his offensive teammates, Wilson, according to a witness, told him, "If you run that route the same way every time, I'll put it right there for you." When Winslow appeared disinterested, Wilson repeated the statement, this time loudly enough to get everyone's attention. Said the witness: "He definitely didn't seem like a rookie."

I imagine "disinterested" was a common theme through his time here, and that's because he thought he was bigger than his boots

I don't know if it was the money, but more the fact that Miller was and is our #1 TE. He seems to need the prestige of being THE guy on the team, and he wasn't going to get that here. Maybe if he were to go to a team like Jacksonville or somewhere that isn't being successful they could make him a "go to guy", but that wasn't going to happen here.

This,,and too, Gonzalaz has stilled the kids thunder by showing how to Quietly get it done.

Oh Tony Gonzalez is one of the class acts in the game. He has the skills, and is mature and has class. I wanted to beat them, but failing that, I am a Falcon fan for the rest of this season!

Wow. Newsflash for ya, big guy. You're not a #1, at least not this year. And with that kind of attitude, you're not even going to be a #3 in this league, at least not on a team in contention for winning anything except the #1 draft pick.

Sounds like he also didn't want to take advice or direction from a rookie, even if he was the quarterback. Shame. But this team is far better off not having that kind of attitude and sense of entitlement.

What did he say first that caught your attention?

Here is what I think. He's confident just like any other player out there believing he can contribute more than the other guy. If you ask Doug Baldwin if he thinks he should be a #1 reciever or a slot guy - what do you think he will say? He caught the most balls for us his rookie year. Now people are going to get mad, why am I comparing Doug to Kellen. I am not. Even though I think Kellen is misunderstood on personal level. When Lofa was asked to take a paycut he refused too. Again - not comparing the two. Just putting things into perspective.

I don't remember, it wasn't even football related I don't think. But I followed Winslow after he came to town, and never bothered to delete him.

I agree with you it was obviously pride thing, and I guess good for him for sticking by his convictions that he can still be a #1 somewhere? Obviously the guy would rather make nothing than go bust his ass and endure the pain of his knee problems for #2 or #3 TE money.
