There is so much talent in the NFL, that at times like these (where opportunity exists) some no name guy will come in and put the place on fire. Will it be Shead or Cox? More likely it's going to be Jeremy Lane and Maxwell, as the other two are goign to be their backups.

I still remember when Houston gave Arian Foster a shot, an undrafted free agent I believe, and all of a sudden he turned into one of the best RBs in the league. I think opportunity is the most important ingredient to success for NFL pklayers.

As fans we give a lot of wieght to name value, but there are stars rising in the league out of no where all the time. They find the right system/coaching, they mature as players, and all of a sudden we have a no-name undrafted free agent turning into Arian Foster. There are countless others. So I say, instead of going after retreads like Winfield, we give potential rising stars like Shead or Cox a shot.

Just heard on KIRO that Shead will be called up in the next 24 hours to the 53 man roster. (Wyman, Mike and Moore show)

Cox is going to keep Winfield's seat warm until he's in game shape. I think that's what this boils down to. Basically he is the "emergency" cornerback in case another guy gets hurt or parties with Thurmond.

I really had high hope on Tharold Simon. Dude has the built of our "required" corner. He's 6' 2" or 6' 3"? And can play the press.

But yes, he's young and have yet to play an NFL game. So throwing him in there isn't the best idea. But maybe perhaps again the NYG, AZ or STL games? I mean like like "garbage" minutes, especially when we're winning by a significant amount of points?

What do you think?

Good technique makes a better CB than sheer athleticism. Just ask Joe Haden, who is too "slow" to play CB in the NFL.

Or ask our own Richard Sherman. He's not as gifted as guys like Patrick Peterson athletically, so in his own words he has to be more technically correct.

That's what worries me most about Shead and Simon. They don't have enough game experience at the NFL level. Winfield is my top choice here.

Yeah, when we get into the playoffs, I want Thurmond at the #2 CB slot and Winfield playing nickel CB. Winfield at least has a career's worth of experience under his belt. As long as he doesn't have to cover super speedy slot guys like Welker, he'll be okay.
