When I first moved north from SoCal, pre-Seahawk existence there were only three options. Steelers broadcast (my family heritage) Raiders and the Niners. The Niners SUCKED so bad then and I have always thought the uniforms sucked. In Xmas 1975, I begged my grandmother in Portland for a new Steelers varsity jacket as an 8 year old, I tried my best to hide my disappointment when I opened the wrapping to a puke colored Niners jacket with those Fruity sleeves. Grandma didn't get it but the local teams were the Raiders and the Niners with the Raiders being good. NO ONE wanted that Niners crap, not even the pencils that dispensed from the machines at elementary school.
Then it happened. I had the old Curtis Mathis console searching for the Steelers/Raiders week 1 opener of 1976 only to see the most influential color of a uniform to ever grace the analog airways of the local CBS affiliate, the Seahawks Blue. My mom said "oh look, there is that new Seattle team" I was immediately in love and my parents, being the loyal black and gold fans they were said that if i wanted to watch the Seattle team, I was going to be doing it on the black and white in my bedroom. The beginning of an era. Niners.... screw that puke.
