And instead spent the money on a top-quality guard...would that have been more beneficial to this team?

And what if that top-quality guard had discovered a hip labrum issue before the season and missed the first half of the season?

Impossible to know how beneficial Harvin will actually be to the team until he plays.

If the germans hadn't bombed perl harbor - would we be speaking japanese? Too hard to tell for certain.

Not taking into consideration the injury. I feel like adding an elite guard to the line would put our run game at a whole new level and help out in pass protection, giving us a better balance.

Of course, it's tough to say without seeing what Harvin can add to this offense, which I am very excited to see.

Or if it was Michael Bennett instead of Harvin. Or Avril, and so on. You can't keep 2nd guessing it.

We might be real happy later in the season that we got Harvin.

Harvin flashing across the middle when Russell is breaking the pocket will be deadly.

Which top quality guard did you have in mind? We've been trying to get that taken care of since Hutch left.

Hindsight is 20/20. I think what would have been beneficial to never have an injury to the O-Line. But that's not football and injuries happen.
You can't be perfect. Either you trust the coaches to get things in line or you don't. People were awfully afraid to lose Cable to another team in the offseason.

Not sure what changed. We're 3-0 after playing two pretty good Defenses in Carolina and SF.

Also, we're 3-0.

Offensive line is just the bane of this team. As soon as one guy gets healthy, another goes down, going back like seven damned seasons, now. I hope we draft OL in either round 1 or 2 next spring.

What elite guards were available? Andy Levitre? We don't know whether he would have fit with what Cable wants. And there really wasn't anyone else you might even consider "elite."

I mean, unless you think we could have traded that 1st to some team for their elite guard. But then, were there any elite guards out there that were pissing their teams off so much that those teams would have destroyed their O-line's cohesiveness just to get rid of him? I don't know.

A good point. I don't recall their being any top-quality guards available in the past off-season.

By the end of the season I believe that we will be very happy with our O-line.

And I am so looking forward to watching what Harvin will be able to do.

Looks like Pete and Bevell already have plays in place that currently feature Tate on WR bubble screens. I'm guessing that those will be called for Percy when he returns.

When Harvin gets on the field and everyone gets to see how dynamic a threat is, threads like this will vanish.

Not knocking the OP -- more of a campaign to look forward to what Harvin is going to bring. It's basically going to be like a mid-season trade for a player who already knows the offense and that opposing teams have no film to prepare for him.

Getting Harvin and Okung back later this season is going to be a shot in the arm. We have the talent and depth to stem the tide right now, but that's something to really look forward to.

This O line is only going to get better as the season goes on. Coming down the stretch it's going to be a strength of this team.

I think we will so long as we go back to our strenghts... running to setup the playaction/bootleg game. With Okung injured up front - obviously Shawn is having problems up the middle (I hear Coleman isn't a steady blocker either)

Harvin is going to add so much to this offense it's just downright thrilling to think about.

This OL was good enough to get us 30 seconds away from an NFC Championship game.. do they need improvement? Absolutely.. but I think that is going to come sooner than later. If you recall, the offense didn't start rolling last season until about Week 11.

I was not a big fan of the Percy Harvin trade. I was happy with Tate and really wanted a tall number one receiver instead.

Once I saw the numbers on his contact my opinion changed. Percy really gave us a team friendly contact all things considered. It has costed is Leon (which is fine) and the real Rob (which I will miss more)

People who think we could have gotten Oline help in free agency are dreaming first it has to be a zone blocker that will listen to Cable. Second he has to have good chemistry with rest of line. That takes time. Third most of the problems so far have been coming from our pro bowl center.

So yes we could have gone after Andre Smith, levitre or jake long for 8 mil a year (money down the drain in my opinion), percy harvin would now be a niner though.
