IF the team were to draft with an eye toward two or three years from now, what positions should they target?
In order:
OT: Losing Ifedi this year. Brown is quite old now. If an OT drops in any of 2020/21/22, you run to the podium and don't trade back.
WR: Lockett is going to be at end of contract and 29/30 years of age in 2021. Third deals for WRs is exceedingly risky. This year is absolutely insane with WR talent. And getting a slot WR in R2 would give us the short term ability to move Lockett between slot and outside. His 2018 production on the outside was near record breaking.
RB: I might opt for 2021 here. Good backs in that draft. Carson should not be resigned. Age/type of use and running style all suggest that injuries and attrition are around the corner with him. Carson UFA in 2021. Penny in 2022. Keep this position group young.
TE: Dissly UFA in 2022. Willson/Hollister in 2020. Depth, age and availability questions abound. Lower need but it's there.
DB: Expect an outside CB project this year in day 3 as Griffin/Flowers insurance in 2021 season. Safety group looks better in 2021.
DT/DE: All the time. Kind of like OL, a team is kind of obligated to take one of each every year given the number of players needed for a roster (~9).
