He sort of has the benefit of inheriting the Dwight Freeney clause (and many before Freeney). This doesn't necessarily mean that he'll be a Hawk ongoing (I'm actually assuming he would be a Hawk for most), but it's a thought none the less. Dude would probably be more productive not playing nearly as many 1st and 2nd downs anyway. Almost everyone is more productive that way just purely because of fatigue.

I have a feeling we'll be seeing Avril again. You get to skip the whole training camp grind and everything. You get back a few weeks before just to get into a bit better shape, but it's more gravy if you have the reputation.

He went with the team to the game last weekend. Shaq said he was coaching from the sidelines. If has to retire, maybe PA can find a spot for him on the staff. That is if PA can afford it.

It's a tough business. Pete says the right things, "want him to get right, make a good decision on his future, take his time to get right"....ect. But all that in the end leads the player to a 1 way ticket out of town. :|

What happens If they are able to make it to the post season and are fortunate enough to secure homefield throughout, and he's given the ok by both the medical and coaching staff? Do you take the risk of further injury knowing this may very well be your last year in a NFL uniform, and go for one last push and a chance and one more ring? Or do do you walk away now, unsatisfied maybe, but at least with your health and under your own power?

If the Seahawks get a ring this year, Avril will get one too unless he is playing for another team, which won't happen since the only cost to bring him back is the roster spot., and no one will trade for a couple of weeks service of a guy that might be one blow away from permanent disability retirement.

My guess is that he either retires, or he comes back to a very limited role to play the year out before being cut. The Hawks won't want to be on the hook for next year's 7.5 million if they can help it
