  • Pete Carroll - Supposedly 6' tall, but I'm not so sure. My avatar is a pic of me standing next to Pete. I'm 5'3" on a good day. Lack of size is said to have contributed to him not getting a shot to play in the NFL as a safety (per http://www.esquire.com/features/pete-carroll-1009-2).
  • Russell Wilson - 5'10-5/8" according to the folks at last year's Combine. Lack of height dropped him to the third round of the NFL Draft.

  • Pete Carroll - REALLY, INCREDIBLY ENTHUSIASTIC AND OPTIMISTIC. WOOOOO! "I always think something good's just about to happen."
  • Russell Wilson - Right after losing to Atlanta: "But walking back into the tunnel, I got so excited about next year. The resilience we showed was unbelievable."

  • Pete Carroll - "Always compete." "Do it better than it's ever been done before." "Practice is where we make us."
  • Russell Wilson - "The separation is in the preparation. Chances are what you make of them."

  • Pete Carroll - "Sleep is overrated."
  • Russell Wilson - "No time to sleep."

Fate? Maybe... Certainly seems like a match made in Heaven.

I think he's more like 5'10". He seems a smidge shorter than Russell when you see them standing next to each other in photos.

Pete is either just over 60, or pushing it. Of course he isn't a full 6' any more. I'm about to turn 54, and neither am I - it happens as you age. Spine discs compress, etc. To the OP, it may or may not be a coincidence. That sort of attitude is just what it takes to win for the long run, and they both have it.

The discs in my back are disappearing. In some places there is a little left and other places it's vertebra on vertebra. So at 62 I am about 1 1/2" shorter than I was 30 years ago. Damn that gravity thing!

I think 20 years from now when RW3 retires after winning multiple Lombardi's he'll make a hell of a head coach!

I got to meet and talk to Pete at camp last summer. He's not 6'. I'm 6'3" and he was much shorter.

Good thoughts...!

Me too, my kid is 6'0 and taller than PC by a little. That same day my kid met Browner. Now that guy is big. He isn't some lanky guy, he looks like a LBer at times. PC surely doesn't look his age either. I can't believe he is over 60.

I know that other fans rip on us for being Russelldrunk, but how can we help it? The guy is designed to improve regardless of what he has done and is just too focused.

I want RW to be part of the Hawks as long as he is part of the NFL. What he learns from PC will be huge for his future. If PC gets a Lombardi with the Hawks, his model will be followed by many newer coaches. RW is the kind of guy that will never stop learning and so far, he is learning from a great teacher. Combine that with his QB experience and his destiny is in coaching.

Both are football smart, hard-working with great optimism. And they both love kids. Yeah, I can definitely see Russell as a coach after his playing days end (in about 15 years if we're lucky).

Both are competition freaks who love their cliches. Both were repeatedly doubted and found insane levels of success anyway. Both are remarkably humble. Both would have very little trouble filling a room with people eager to hear what they have to say. Both give a "political future" vibe- or at least the talent for it is clearly evident.

Both are cool dudes, too.
