The pundits have long had the Packers penciled in as a wildcard team but ponder this:
If Seattle beats Green Bay, then they get the head-to-head tie breaker with the Packers. This means that the Rams could win the West and Seattle could realistically take Green Bay's place as the final Wild Card team, excluding the Packers from post season altogether. That....is how important this game is. Not a single pundit in the country has given this line of thinking relevance. Every last one of them has the Packers portrayed as an automatic qualifier.
This is EXACTLY what would happen if both Seattle and LA win out until their week 18 meeting. Then that final game would be for hosting a playoff game with Seattle having already clinched a playoff berth and LA already clinching a berth if the Vikings defeat the Packers in week 17. Another scenario, if Seattle and LA win out until they meet, would be Seattle having already clinched at least a Wild Card and the Rams needing to beat Seattle and win the West to get into the playoffs (If Packers beat Vikings in week 17).
