Let's be fair.
The year we won the SB, there was a big fight between Tate and Harvin that never got out.
If we lose that, the story gets out and we would find a lot of people pointing at that moment as the loss. Every team has some dirty laundry, and when you lose - some of it gets aired.
Pete isn't a liability because of this, although that was a terminally stupid decision on so many levels.
Pete is a liability for what he has become, not what he was. Half of the problem is him ignoring what got him here and thinking somehow his acumen and ability was the key, not the players.
But PNW nailed it on Pete. Pete and Wilson are likely similar. They both do incredibly difficult to do things with seeming ease, but then struggle to do things that are considered skills that are a given for the position. Their ability to do the incredible makes them so valuable you basically overlook they struggle with the common. Because being able to do the exceptional, incredibly difficult, or sometimes almost impossible to consistently deliver? Sometimes outweighs struggling with some of the basics.
The problem is really when you struggle with delivering those exceptional things. Pete with his terrible defenses, horrific roster development, and Wilson with his inability to make the deep ball work for him (though admittedly, we were not getting much help from the refs on some of that.) Then the glaring weaknesses glow a bit more harshly because you are not offsetting them with the spectacular you normally deliver.
So maybe getting upset about this one is a bit much, because there is some hindsight involved. But it was still incredibly stupid to even take the risk.
