I didn't get to watch the game at all this week. I was on the the road and officiating a wedding all day Sunday, so I missed it . . .

When I got to my folks house where the family and I were staying for the weekend I asked my dad what he thought about the game. Now, dad is an emotional football watcher and chronic overreactor, but I'm guessing he's not the only one to utter these words . . .

"That game proves that we are not Super Bowl Contenders!"

How would you respond?

You don't, you let it ride.

People say stupid things after a loss, .net is living proof of this fact.

It proves we're not going 19-0. That's about it. Every team loses.

Lol, the last Super Bowl CHAMPION fired their offensive coordinator in the middle of the season. The team they faced got spanked 42-13 near the end of the season and couldn't beat the Rams. Tell him to chill.

You father is a "glass half empty" kinda guy! We played a very good team, on the road, with a bunch of key players out, and made a lot of mistakes. Most of which are easily remedied. Can't help you with the very good team part.

One game does not a season make.

LOL. . . He may be almost 70, but he's still dad and has me by 30 still muscular pounds.

While it would be momentarily humorous, that moment would be short lived and followed by much pain.

Well, right now we probably aren't, but then again it's only the first week in October, and we have some serious injury and O-Line issues. However, I expected us to be probably 2-3 right now because these first five weeks are the hardest part of Seattle's schedule and we all knew that we were going into the regular season with some injury issues.

As I see it, the worst part (overall) of our schedule is behind us, we are starting to get our people back, and three of the five dreaded 10am starts are done.

I also was encouraged by what I saw in Indy as well as dissapointed that we lost and....aggravated...at some of the breaks (including officiating....but there's another whole thread on that topic) that Indy got. Even so Wilson had the opportunity to pull it out (and yes that last hit on Wilson should have been flagged IMO. That was a clear launch and target with the crown of the helmet). Anyhoo, I am looking forward to seeing the Titans become Dwarves this Sunday.

Of the next four teams in October, believe it or not, it's the Cardinals that concern me the most. Their defense is for real even if their offense is a disaster, and we have to face them on THURSDAY on the road (why of late does Seattle always seem to draw Thursday games on the road? That's rough. Just asking?)

Anyway, I'm new here but I hope this passes .net muster.

Your dad is totally overreacting. That said, champions make plays and we failed to make several when we had the chance. Sunday was not our finest hour, but I wouldn't panic just yet.

Tell him that teenage girls would probably react the same way. The rest of us realize there's 11 games still to go in the regular season. That's 11 games that be won to lock up HFA.

every team has to lose. At teh beginning of the year nearly everyone said "if we go 1-1 on that brutal texans/colts road stretch, I will be very happy" and so I think people need to remember that.

Indeed. After seeing the Denver vs Dallas game, does anyone thing Denver will go undefeated? I don't. Like I just said before, it's one loss in the hardest part of our schedule. As long as the 'hawks learn from it and improve, I think we'll be fine.

You speak the truth my friend.

How do I respond? Scream and yell, bitch about the unfairness of it all, blame the refs, blame the play calling, blame the coaching, blame the players, :enraged: then go on .Net and pretend like I handled it all with a degree of modicum. "I don't see why everyone is over reacting, it's one loss, no big deal." Then go back to my room, crawl in to the back of my closet with my b'anky and cry. :sulk:

So the Superbowl will be played by 2 of the undefeated teams at the end of week 5? Tell your dad to stop bothering you, and to go put his money down in Vegas.

Last I checked no two teams are anointed Super Bowl teams until 2-2-2014.

Didn't the Ravens and 49ers both lose games before the Super Bowl last year? I kinda remember one of them getting blown out on the road last year, late in the season nonetheless.

We won a close game, and lost a close game, both on the road, back to back, and with early east coast starting times. That's tough enough right there, but now we're missing all of our OL "skill" positions. BOTH starting Tackles and our Center, two of which were Pro Bowl Players.

And we still had plenty of chances to win that game in Indy. We basically lost by a couple bogus PI calls and a blocked FG returned for a TD, which happens about once a year.

It'll get better.

I think a lot of people underestimated a very strong Indy team and almost expected a W after the Houston game. It's not really something to lay blame for - it's easy to get caught up in such a great start to a season.

I would ask him why? Emotional or not he has some thoughts on what he figures it takes to win it all. He could be a hardened cynic that many here tend to blow off but sounds like he is invested into the team. Maybe I wouldn't sit down every Sunday and watch the game with him, but I am sure he isn't just full of junk.

A few of my good buddies from this site sat through last year's Panthers game and let's just say they weren't the biggest Wilson fans. It was a see-saw game as we remember and I didn't really want to sit through another Wilson vs Flynn discussion, but in the end we got to see a win. I learned from backing Ruskell until the end that sometimes you have to stop providing excuses and listen to the people. Even if you don't agree, they aren't blithering idiots (well at least most of them).

Tell Pops he may be right but it is a little too early to make that call. The team can learn and the weaknesses may turn into strengths?
