Per Garafolo twitter:

Mike Garafolo ‏@MikeGarafolo 1h

Mentioned on @FOXSportsLive Percy Harvin was on track to play vs STL until hip flared up Thurs. Pumped brakes. We'll see how he does this wk

No idea how to put the Twitter pic up like some here do. So I just cut and paste.

Lol great just what we need. Oh well he still has over a month before our crucial NO game where we really need him. Take all the precautions coaches please.

That's normal. All surgically-repaired muscles, tendons, cartilage, etc. 'flare up' when you push them during your rehab. That's what they're supposed to do. It means they're responding and rebuilding their strength. It's the same principle as when you're sore the day after overdoing it at the gym.

Because they don't know what a flare up means.

Just hoped he was ready by now without incident (aka he's 100% ready to go with no problems at all).

No, because it means those folks who are putting all their hopes on Harvin returning vs TB should temper their expectations. The guy's still healing. And a flare up could mean more than just normal healing. Remember, the coaches downplay everything. So we really don't know how long till Harvin is ready to play again.

The guy's already well ahead of where most people expected him to be at this point. Remember, back when he had his surgery, people were talking optimistically about him being able to return for the New Orleans game. He looks like he might return nearly a month ahead of that schedule.

Yup, that's great, but you know, sometimes you just get caught up in all the "hope" and talk.

or you don't. It means that he didn't play and it could mean that his return is delayed a few more games. According to an ortho I know who's particular specialty happens to be sports medicine it could also mean that the hip is arthritic and if so the injury is chronic.

So what is your take?

Too soon to have a take on it just yet. I wouldn't start worrying about chronic injuries at this point. But it should temper fans enthusiasm to get him back too soon. I'd be surprised if he plays vs TB. If he does, I'd be concerned they're rushing him back. He's supposedly healing ahead of schedule. Fact is, he might only be healing ON schedule, meaning he won't be ready as soon as he wants to be. I'm beginning to think a lot of his supposed quick healing is a product of his own desire to get on the field and not really based on him healing ahead of schedule.

In any event, Harvin won't be the saviour of our offensive line woes. Only Okung and Breno will fix that. We've got TB, Atl. and Minn coming up. If he's back by Minn. that would be fine IMO. Hopefully, this is nothing major.

Harvin is the expensive sports car.

And like an expensive sports car, he isn't dependable.

It is always in the shop or the garage or needing or part or whatever. He is flashy and fast, but utterly undependable and a complete luxury at a time we need a few necessities. I have believed that he was going to make a big difference one way or the other once he got back because I never have believed he was going to play enough to make that difference.

Then again, if he can manage to keep from breaking down in the playoffs maybe he puts us over the top but that is only if he can last long enough.

In a choice between Tate or Harvin, I would pick Tate. Tate at least wins games for us. Harvin just doesn't have the durability or the fortitude to be the difference maker even though he has the physical ability and skills. At least we are finding this out now before we stupidly put all our eggs in one basket and get rid of someone like Tate or Baldwin.

I really want to be proven wrong because I have been annoyed with this signing from Day 1, considering the cost. At this point, if he can be the difference maker in a playoff game then I would be happy to be wrong. It only takes one game to end a season in the playoffs. But if not, he was a total and complete waste of time, money and apparently a draft pick.

This is a great post. I feel the same way except the 'annoyed since day 1 part' as I loved it when it first was announced. However, it now appears your concern all along may be justified. And as Salish intimated, he won't be back again this week.

I'm pretty sure i seen on PC press video that he was just sore after the week so they rested him so its nothing not in football shape so it's nothing in my book.

You mean that ortho that never examined him? Sounds ethical.
