I don't know about that, honestly.

I like what Grubb is cooking up so far, but we tried almost as hard to establish the run in this game as we did in the famous Wild Card loss to the Cowboys.

Carson rushed 13 for 20, Charbonnet rushed 14 for 27. Mike Davis went 4 for 10 in the Wild Card loss. Penny averaged almost 8 per carry because he sprung a big one, but he only had 4 carries too.

I think the verbiage "establish the run" is an imperfect summation of what most coaches actually mean. Establishing the run is really more about not giving up on the run so that your offense remains multi-faceted.

You always hear defensive coordinators talk about getting opponents down to a one-dimensional offensive attack. A team that gives up on establishing the run willingly goes down to one dimension.

The phrase "establish the run" sounds like a stubborn insistence upon moving the offense in a particular fashion come hell or high water, but I think it's really about making sure you're keeping the defense honest.

Seems like a pretty big difference between 21 rushing attempts and 14 attempts. in a two point game 5 extra rushes into obviously stacked boxes verus throwing those 5 times could have made the difference for sure (2 of the 7 extra runs were 2 point conversions)

We're 2-0, with a little serendipity working for us, but I certainly don't expect 17-0. We're a work in process right now, and I'm good with that.
This almost deserves its own thread. Every one is pumped and jacked now. What's going to happen when Seattle loses its first game?

It's the NFL, we will lose at some point. Not like anyone has us contending this year. There's going to be bumps along the way with a new coach and a roster that's not there yet. I think the fans just want to see steady progress, improve on last year, see some players maybe take the next step to elite level with the aim of contending in a year or 2.

I like your level headed response and agree with you my Scottish friend. However , have you met Pittpnthr?

Like Callmeadog said , it will all be placed at Geno Smith's feet.

I think you will see a good deal of patience for a first-time head coach who is showing a willingness to:

1) Let his coordinators have some freedom to do their thing
2) Make adjustments series to series, let alone quarter to quarter, half to half, game to game, or even year to year.
3) Change with the game and the league

In order for Grubb's O to be fully implemented he needs a much stronger OLine.
The failures on the o line arent just 'skill' issues. They often play poor fundamental ball.

Mike Macdonald was asked about the o line and said himself its not just one thing. When asked if some of the issue was Grubb, he didnt say no. He said that like him andnthe rest of the staff, Grubb is doing this for the first time at the pro level. He then pivoted and compared the evolution he (as a coach) and the defense have made over the season to the improvemnt he is hoping the offense will make as well.

Grubb and Huff need to get better, just as Macdonald acknowledged he had to vefore the defense really took off. Thinking that our coaches on offense could just step in and get the most of our talent while implementing a scheme that is foreign to the league in some ways was foolish.

The players need to 'get it' and then execute it.

Its both coaching and players.

A new OL, a new QB, upgrade TE, and additional pieces in WR and RB.

There, everything Grubb needs. Oooops, all of the above and another season or two to educate and implement.

How many excuses does Grubb get before he's gone?

Come on dude. The WR group is top tier. Walker is an absolute stud, 3 of the OL starters are good players and Barner is looking like the real deal and Fant is a good TE.

nee meneer

The Grubb system probably need at least three probowlers on OL, we have none. Lockett is retiring so need another star WR.

How many excuses does Geno get weekly?

Geno isnt failing behind a great o line and in a proven offense . He is playing sometimes great, sometimes not behind an o line that is terrible and an offense that hasnt yet shown it can be implemented in the NFL. Well, at least not by Grubb and Huff.

But, LIKE THE GEAD COACH OF THE SEAHAWKS SAID, hopefully the coaching will get better and the players will get it.

Somebody needs to call Macdonald and tell him the issue on offense is really just Geno. The HC spends a lot of time barking up the wrong tree.
