I think to run the MacD scheme you need that kind of discipline and accountability. Pete wanted his guys to be athletes and just compete like heck. MacD wants everyone to be in the moment and make the right decision and let the scheme bring them the opportunity to compete. That takes more discipline.

I'm just glad he's a straight shooting communicator. This is what I need you to do, so do it.

No matter how we do this year which shouldn't be as bad as predicted, next year the culture is established and the players will be on top of it from the beginning, the future is looking bright, bring your shades !

In a lofty place tanglin' with Satan over history.
It might have been predictable that a few young players would fail such a difficult test, requiring them to start camp on the non-football injury list until they could pass. But to the Seahawks' new head coach, it wasn't acceptable.

"Macdonald was pissed," a source close to a player said.

Macdonald chewed out the players individually, according to a team source and a source close to a player, and then brought up the issue in front of the rest of the team in order to drive the point home: You owe it to everyone else to show up in shape.

He told at least one of the players that he'd have been cut on the spot if not for the guaranteed money in his contract, another source close to one of them said.

Oh, I see we hired Nicky Santoro as our new head coach! 😍

Macdonald was THE guy for us. It was always him. I firmly believe JS didn't have eyes for anyone other than him. If Macdonald wasn't on the coaching candidate market, then PC would've had one more year. And I'm glad the timing worked out, and that they didn't fire PC after 2021 when I thought the team, as it had currently stood at the time, was truly done for.

That's the list of all the coaching candidates that were available in the 2022 cycle. In hindsight, the only coaches from that cycle that would've been worth hiring are O'Connell & McDaniel. And I'd still take Macdonald over them.

The tweet when someone asked Diggs if Pete has players do conditioning and he said no Pete treats like adults says a lot. I think Pete changed late in his career and got away from holding guys accountable.

If the head coach isn't enforcing discipline, there's no way players are going to come to camp in shape.

I take that back , some came in shape I'm sure but I bet a lot didn't .

Pete definitely became the absent minded grandpa , telling the same stories over again.

I very much enjoyed reading this article and the new culture under MM. I can see how PC's culture worked really well for people like RW and Marshawn who probably preferred a gentler (RW) or at least more freedom to take care of their own things (Beast). Even Sherman before things got sour.

But yeah it's obvious that PC's culture stopped working, and I could also really see how this is what allowed players like DK to let his emotions hurt the team on-field.

I am all for the new culture of accountability. I am very curious if perhaps with MM this is what reels in DK and/or how MM does respond if/when DK has another on-field issue.

I also think Pete in the College system had the benefit of a rotating door of players, so you had a new team every 2-3 years realistically. That is not the case for the NFL, so then the same message does start to get old to your team leaders (who lead the rookies internally) who have made it 2 contract extensions.

As far as the question of who fits the bill in the article, it literally says the players who couldn't do the physical test were placed on the PUP list until they could pass it. PUP list at the time:

Lucas, Baker and Dodson who were all injured

Boykn, Reed II, Drake Thomas, Cam Young, Bradford, Gibbs, DJ James, Pritchett and Dee Williams.

My guess would be Bradford since he was non-football injury designation, but it could also be Cam Young.

I can't imagine LBs, a safety, CBs or a WR having difficulty doing shuttles.
