Dayyyyummm.

I did not see him stepping down. Fired maybe - but stepping down?

So will he coach again or no?

Tomlin and Harbaugh down.

Wild position. Those guys' playoff records are amazing, and who is going to come in and top it? And yet, they couldn't reach the big game again after so many years.

Zero losing seasons in 19 years. In the 70s-80s? I could see it. Now? Insane.

I love that it gets referred to as ‘stepping down’ if you’ve been in the gig more than ten years.

We’re not firing you. That would make us look bad. We’re giving you the opportunity to jump.

With your head held high.

Even if you didn’t want to.

It’s called stepping down because he informed Rooney of the decision and not the other way around.

He just wanted to spend more time with his family.

Doesn't surprise me that he stepped down. It's been said that he could be offered a lucrative contract by one of the TV networks to work for them in some capacity. He would obviously be highly in demand as a head coach. The only questions regarding that are does he want some time off from coaching, how aggressive would Pittsburgh be in wanting compensation for him in a trade, and what situations might be of interest to him as a head coach? We'll see.

If I was Tomlin, I wouldn't take a job with a team that didn't have something resembling a franchise QB in place, or at least a team that had a young QB with the potential to be one.

I thought he looked a tad burned out last night, when the Stealers couldn't stop the Texans.

Time to take some time off.

Think he would be perfect for someone like the giants. Just a strong head that can deal with the mess and may have a qb and rb if they can stay healthy.

Yup. There's been some talk of that. If the Titans had better ownership/general management, I would think that an attractive landing spot for someone. I think they've got their young franchise QB in Cam Ward, some high draft picks forthcoming, and it's pretty much only up from here if they play their cards right.

Absolutely.

And Pete Carroll was going to be a consultant for Seattle 😀

Hey, you might well be right, we’ll all have to wait and see.

But when it involves coaches who have got rings, the language often changes, people get to write their own exits. Ultimately, it’s often owners and GMs getting restless and wondering if the grass is greener elsewhere. We just don’t get to hear about it as that would not be a good look for them.

(And the owners are faultless, as we all know…)

Pete Carrol was removed as head coach. The “role” he was given was nothing except a title to put on the paychecks we had to keep giving him.

Tomlin went in and told Art Rooney that he was stepping down. It’s already been said in a statement released by the Steelers. He has 2 years left on his contract that the Steelers no longer have to pay and they hold his rights. This is more like the way Payton left the Saints than Pete.
