Our first loss of the year and the site hasn't turned into a complete crapfest as in year's past.

Yes, we have our disagreements, and even some borderline "pushing it" posts but after a loss it's hard for many fans not to wear their emotions on their sleeves. We all do it, to varying degree. In the end, we are all part of the same tribe, rooting for our tribe to succeed, and we all have our opinions to the why's, how's, who's of it.

This would be a boring ass place if we all agreed. It's why, even those I completely disagree with, that this place is sacred. Outside of being an outright troll or assmunch, we should be allowed to commune here after a win or loss and not fear being run out of the building for your take.

Except for Rat, but I digress.

I KID!! I KID!! Take it easy! (I'm just playin' Rat. You are honestly a well valued member here).

I remember many years we would legit lose valued members for weeks if not more, due to the place being insufferable after a loss. Although there are plenty opposing thoughts in several threads today, it is still well within the realm of respect and agreeing to disagree.

So good on ya, Netters. Tip of the cap.

Thank you, it has not been easy to keep up such classy, well-balanced discourse in the wake of our first loss in more than ten months, but that's just the kind of guy I am.

...reads the second half of the post:

Oh...

I kinda let some of the discussion get away from me. I actually don't think Geno sucks or anything like that. He's fun to watch and his story is incredibly inspiring. Who he really reminds me of is who I thought Dwayne Haskins was going to be, before realizing that he was FAR less mature than I had realized: the unteachable accuracy, the will to use anything to make first downs happen, etc. I got a bit defensive because I had expressed disappointment with how that late red zone trip went, and I felt like people were accusing me of saying that he's a 100% trash QB and person, and that we'd be better off with Charlie Frye under center. Granted, me using language like "embarrassment" didn't especially help. In retrospect, that was a bit of an exaggeration. I don't think it's unreasonable to expect more of a veteran quarterback in that situation (I hope Geno himself expects better). Fortunately, one of Geno's best traits is the humility and willingness to learn from his failures. I'm hopeful he'll look better the next time he finds himself in a similar situation.

Two things in my defense though:

1. I live in Michigan and talked a LOT of smack to Lions fans all week. I was like "Even with the injuries on the line, you're going to be impressed as hell with this secondary. It has been unreal." And then Devin Witherspoon apparently lost a bet and had to do a Freaky Friday thing with Cary Williams. Giving up 42 points and not forcing a single incompletion really deligitimized a lot of what I had said in the eyes of the people I was running my mouth to.

2. I was forced off my insurance a month ago, and lost the ability to afford the high-dosage medications for my severe mental health deficiencies, and have become a bit prone to emotional responses. I need to work on that.

Result sucked, but we certainly didn't look like a team that was winning with smoke and mirrors and is getting ready to bow out of playoff contention. Looked promising. Let's please get healthy.

I disagree!

Not really…just making a point that I agree it’s ok. Still wish you owed me $500.

Considering injuries, a road game and stepped up competition I though the team did well. I actually have more faith in them today.

Helps that we have a coach that takes accountability - and is motivated to fix it.

Not saying the sun rises and sets on MM or that PC didn't bring us an owl. MM doesn't have a real track record or real street cred just quite yet.

Just saying it makes a difference to everyone; players and fans. IMO.

I liken it to when an employee messes up. As a manager - what are you looking for in general? Accountability. An admission/realization that there's a problem. A plan to fix it/not have it happen again. And actual progress towards that goal.

When you are whistling past the graveyard - that's what pisses people off. And, I don't think anyone here is questioning the raw effort, dedication and physicality of this team. That makes a difference too. Then again, we'll see how the season goes :)

I rather enjoy the banter between posters that are in disagreement with each other on dot net. And for the most part most here are rather cordial with each others opinions and takes.

At the end of the day—this loss to Detroit only means one thing: 16-1, baby!

Now, we don’t have to enjoy all the fame and attention (who wants that?) that comes with being undefeated for the entire regular season, we are no longer burdened with the perfect record (no one wants to be undefeated, lmao) that means we can go undefeated from here on out!

16-1!!!!

Have to say, last few years I would avoid the place for a couple of days after a loss. Just couldn't take the negativity.

But here I am, the day after a loss, posting away and not getting flamed.

I avoided it last night till long after the game.

Well said, Aros. And on the topic of negativity after a loss in years past, is it just me or does it seem like the general atmosphere on .net has matured compared to say, the pre Superbowl victory years? A close friend of mine is a long time Patriots guy and I noticed his fandom and football wisdom really came into it's own when they started winning. When we were getting good under Holmgren, he was a constant and steady voice in perspective and logically approaching the process of what it takes to win a championship. I think, collectively, we've kind of turned that corner too and the emotional overreactions that were once commonplace have really become the exception to the rule. Maybe it's just me, either way, great post.

It's the only fan site I go to. A lot of great, knowledgeable fans in here. We give each other crap a lot, but we all have one thing in common: We love the Hawks.
