Considering current depth at defensive line, I am not quite sure if they would keep him. Although, if he takes less money to stay then why not.

I think Bennett will stay becuase of the team atmosphere and the love he gets from the fans probably never been apart of anything like that before. Not to mention he is what PC has been looking for as far as inside rushers are concerned he's a high effort/high intensity guy that gets after it every play like no one else in the middle. i do think its the last year for Clemons and don't think they can keep Avril either. I would say they do everything they can to get Bennett on a team/Cap friendly deal which still gets him paid and pair him with Bruce Irvin for the Future.

I sincerely hope we can figure a way to come up with a couple more mil to keep Mr. Bennett. That interior rush wins us the SB last year, IMO, and I believe it wins us this one and possibly the next as well. I've not seen enough Avril to know for certain whether or not he's inferior to Bennett, but if he is in the same ballpark, perhaps our man Clemons, being their senior, will be the odd man out (but I hope not).

Bennett's play has been inspiring so far this season . Lets see if he can keep it up week after week. After that I'm sure we will do everything to resign him.

Ok, I have an idea that shouldn't be a problem.

Those that need to restructure, do it.
Those that have earned a handsome living and will be worth a kings ransom, give us a hometown deal to stay here and still make millions per year.
We keep and take care of all that are all in and performing.
Pete builds a dynasty that is the envy of all and becomes second to none in NFL history.
We win 6 of the next 11 Super Bowls.

Really, I don't see a problem at all with this business model.

You know why your concept is not entirely off the wall, even in today's "show me the money" world? Because of an extraordinary fan base that treats these guys like rock stars, if not absolute royalty. Seattle's players want to win for the fans badly. They feel what we've been through and want to be the first to make change. To be a part of history.

That and it appears Pete and John have done a pretty good job of finding non-a-holes to bring on board. Not to mention, there's few places in the US better to live.

If you had 30 mil in the bank and was offered 5 mil a year to stay in Seattle, or 6 mil a year to move to 'Nawlins....how long would it take you to re-sign? I think Pete and John are both damn good salesmen and such conversations should take place on Paul's yacht.

I have quickly become a big Bennett fan. I would love for the FO to find a way to keep him here. He is clearly a difference-maker on the field.

its going to be very hard to keep all of clem, red, avril, and bennett and even mebane. avril and bennett came on cheap, short deals to try and get their rep up and get more money later. i cant see them being too quick to say no to a big time cash in. its pretty clear how valuable bennett is though. tampa was a great run defense last year, led by a great d-line, not so much this year. he has to be a priority.

unfortunately, i think it will be marshawn who is the major loss to make room to pay all these guys including sherm, wagner, earl and russ. its going to have to be someone, and with turbo and michael looking like capable starting backs, i can see it being him who misses out. as much as i absolutely LOVE watching marshawn. probably rice and one of those lineman too, but lynch would be the biggest shock, and it seems to make sense to me.

I want to see Bennett stay, and he stated he doesn't want to leave Seattle again, but money talks. I trust this FO and have faith they see him as an integral part of the defense and will make every effort to lock him up. The interior pressure is what the line has been missing and if he continues and looks even better he must be kept.

Who do we keep?? Remember not long ago when it was who do we bring in to replace this joker...

Regardless of how it all shakes out...this is a wonderful problem to have.

I have more faith in Bennett over Jason "injured again" Jones. I wonder if he'll undergo surgery after the season to fix the cuff.

I think there is a reason why we only signed him for 1 year, and it's not our choosing.

Bennett is padding his resume.. he want's the big bucks.

JS/PC have a Cap plan for years down the road but i bet that the plans changed when M. Bennett started playing the way he has in the regular season. I think they let Clemons/S.Rice go older players with young talent behind them. they may ask Red and Z.Miller to take pay cuts if they won't they probably cut them. Mebane and T. McDaniel i think maybe safe for at least a few yrs. they'll find a way to extend Earl thomas and M. Bennett, only Earl Thomas will be a max deal but Bennett will be upper end but not a max deal. They are top of the list in my book the one i don't know about is Sherman look what D. Revis contract did to the Jets.

Unfortunately both Turbin and Michael seem to need actual blocking more than Marshawn. Our line is consistently letting RBs get hit in the backfield, and when it's Lynch in there it isn't a total disaster for the drive because he drags himself back to the LOS.

Truthfully I wouldn't be surprised if it does turn out that Lynch's days are numbered, obviously when they're drafting RBs left and right they're preparing for that eventuality. I just hope the line shapes up a bit better before that day comes.

I have seen a few others speculate that he could be the end for Clem...but Clem probably still has another 2-3 good years left in him. On this thread someone was speculating maybe will spell the end for Red Bryant, but he is playing pretty well so far this year and is 2 years younger than Clem. Something is definitely going to have to give. I think a lot of this also hinges on what exactly we get from Avril as well this year.

If Avril is solid but not really spectacular, then it will be a bit easier for them to make moves with players currently on the roster. If Avril really comes out later this year and starts being consistently lights out as well, then everything will be that much more complicated. This FO is going to have to get really creative on being able to keep guys here and hopefully through evaluations by Pete/John and the rest of the staff they will keep the best players here and keep doing the great job they are doing finding players for depth in the draft that they can keep developing into good players.

Something else to consider is that we don't even know how Irvin is going to do, or going to look this year. If he comes back and is just tearing it up, that will make things a little easier because he is still on his rookie contract. With this roster being so stacked there are going to be some decisions that will be very painful for us fans, but it is definitely a good problem to have and better than having all the other problems associated with not having a very good roster.

If things progress through the season as they are now and Bennett consistently plays at a higher level than Avril and Bruce Irvin becomes a beast, then I think Red will be asked to restructure or given an opportunity to play somewhere else. Yes, he is popular among the players and he is a good player, but there is only so much money to go around. Red has looked to be in probably his best shape and really doing well so far this year as well. Clemons, unless he has a horrible year..I think he will be here...he has all the pass rush skills but is also good against the run too. If he sucked against the run I think more of a case could be made to keep Bryant instead of him, but pass rush is critical and if they can fill that need and still be strong against the run then I think we can figure out pretty easily which way things will go.

just off the top of my head could see dline looking like

clem/bennett/mebane/avril with irvin in lb spot(interchangeable with bennett/clem/avril)

clem/red/mebane/bennett same caveat as above but just between irvin/clem/bennett

clem/red/mebane/avril that lb spot between irvin/clem/avril/bennett with bennett being able to slide into dt as well.

I am not much of an x and o's kind of guy but has anyone noticed when they have bennett at dt are they just sticking him only with red inside or with mebane inside or have they been mixing it up with who they have beside him.

I was thinking dt, the only one safe would be Mebane, but with the FO you never know, and we'll have to see how he plays throughout the year...but what if they made a dt decision and we had red but not mebane? does anyone think that could be a possibility, especially with as good as red has looked early in this season?

edit: and I was so into those main players I didn't even take into account Schofield(sP)

posted this in a locked thread about same topic, figured i'd see what everyone in this one thought of it.

Cutting Mebane saves $5m. You might have to cut one of Miller or Rice. Clemons is a test case this year to see if he rebounds from the injury. And you'd probably have to let Golden Tate walk in free agency.

Then you can re-sign Sherman, Thomas and Bennett.

Not easy, but the way Bennett's playing he'd have to be almost as much of a priority as anyone else. I'd love to find a way to keep Tate as well.

Unless something major changes with Rice and Tate doesn't continue to pick up his game like he did last season, then I'd think they'd get rid of Rice before letting Tate go.

To the guy saying Browner will be cut next year, he is a Free Agent, so I gather you mean he will not be re-signed? For the guys thinking our guys will give a home discount because of the environment here, I don't think that will be the case. Baldwin at one time probably thought he would be here a long time, but his eyes have been opened to how Leon, MRob and TJack were shown the door. The LOB will see when/if Browner has to walk. They will have to take advice from their agents and take the emotions out of the decision.

Sherman talked about wanting to be here with his guys, but in a year's time he could be feeling a little different. See Red and how fans are saying he should be cut or re-do his contract. Rice, Miller and others. Players would be silly to let emotions guide them when it comes to contract talks.

As far as Bennett, if he keeps up the production I can see the team trying to sign him to a 3-5 yr deal with a decent bonus. But they will have competition.

Something that we, as fans, are going to have to bank on..and hopefully that trust will continue to be rewarded...is that Pete/John will be bringing in new players every year in the draft and in free agency that fit their schemes offensively and defensively and in whom they are confident in being able to develop quickly. One of the byproducts of success for any team in the NFL means that more of a team's players are playing well. regardless of whether that combined team and individual success is a function of the schemes and/or individual talent, other teams are going to be looking to add that talent to their rosters at any opportunity. Some of those players are also going to have the mindset of getting as much as they can financially for their services. I think that we are going to have to get used to losing some of our fan favorites every year, especially if the success the Seahawks are experiencing is sustained for a long time.
