They need to win some games this year or the fallout will be ugly.

Is there a world that exists where a journalist reports (hours after a trade) that the team is on cloud 9 that their QB is gone?

This is like Mac claiming that Geno isn't going anywhere. It's just sports speak.

Or maybe the guys spoken to were personal friends of Geno?

Either way not sure it means there's some sort of mutiny brewing

People view Geno as near elite so they think it’s unthinkable to trade him unless you’re rebuilding. I don’t agree with that but that’s why you will see that train of thought
We only got a third for him, that suggests that he wasn’t as good as some suggested around here.

He’s not as bad as people make him out to be but the idea of extending him and paying him current QB rates was not the move.

Though, I’m not pleased with the idea of Darnold unless he comes at a discount rate

Pros and cons about Schneider

One of the pros is when the team sets a certain dollar amount o a player, they stick to it. The Seahawks number is much lower than Geno’s number. Same goes with Metcalf. You can’t overpay.

I never minded having Geno as our quarterback. I was perfectly OK with him playing out his existing contract. I never thought extending him to a long term contact was a good idea.

Sam Howell your up. If you fail, well you are only a million dollar cap hit. This is your chance Mr Howell to show everyone what you got

I always remember a comment Pete made to the media in his second draft when asked why he didn’t draft a QB mainly Andrew Dalton one of their top picks. His answer was the team was not ready to install a rookie Quarterback. You have to build the team first then plug in the young QB. That is exactly what we did, built a formidable team first and then plugged in Russell Wilson. A great philosophy on building a team.

Maybe….

But week 17 to get HFA throughout and a bye was also a bad game. Bad games are fine in week 5, but you have to show up when it counts. Two enormous (franchise changing) games in a row and Darnold disappeared.

Dismissing a whole season of dominance over 2 games is pretty unfair, even acknowledging that big games are important

A better criticism is wondering how much the Vikings ultra talented roster contributed to his resurgence.

It's hard to say. It's why his market is lukewarm.

And that’s the part where the extension made sense. 1 move isn’t just 1 move. It has a million different moving parts that people don’t consider.

It’s a business but teammates loved Geno and felt close and wanted to win with him. Fans may not see that but this could get them over the hump or it could really blow up in their face.

OMFG! WE EXIST! The national football press is actually talking about US! Seahawks exploring trades for DK Metcalf (forthcoming soon. most likely); Lockett retires; Geno traded. I'm digging it. Metcalf is not even our #1 receiver now. Geno wanted too much money. Lockett saves us a big chunk of CAP space. This is all good news. We're trying to get better. There's no guarantees, but we made it known that we're pushing our chips into the pot in an attempt to be so. Bravo!

I don’t see how we don’t think this is a rebuild?

I’m ok with with Darnold if there is an opt out every year.

99.99% certain (get ready for this ‘duh’ statement that’s coming), JS and MM love a QB in this draft.

That in itself is pretty exciting.

As for Geno, he likely hit his ceiling a season or two ago. Folks like to say 34 isn’t old for a QB. The reality is….

QB passing yards 35 and over

…unless your ‘legend’ status….

I do think Geno can be a Top 7 QB statistically. PC is the guy that can bring that out.

As for our upcoming season, I’m not expecting much. Would love to grab a QB in the draft. Would love to fortify our less than stellar O-line. With the $$ and extra pick(s), we can do just that.

I really don't understand how people think we are talking, lol. We just unloaded an OK qb for a 3rd round pick, which gives us another option to build the team better. Geno gave us the same thing, year in year out.. You got your good Geno and your bad Geno. Sometimes we saw "what in the hell are you doing" Geno. Glad they decided to see what other options are available.
He's not wrong!

for those saying there is zero proof that DK and Geno had issues here is Gee who’s connected with the players. The Geno fandom causes people to be close minded at times.

Very interesting discussion. Hopefully, the truth will come out one day.

Maybe DK caught wind that they offered him up to the Raiders?

Secondary to that, I have my doubts that Gone ( I mean Geno) and DK were ‘on the same page’.

It would be crazy if DK stays. If he does, there HAS to be some substance to his alleged issues with our former QB.

I was definitely in the pro-Geno camp. I don't think that trading him is the end of the world, and there are benefits to it, such as the cap space. (But extending him would have also made more cap space.) I understand the arguments for trading him--his age plus his regression last year, among other things. I would have rather kept Geno, but as long as JS and MM have a plan at QB, it should be fine.

Quote from a Raiders board lol
He eats up cap + takes away a 3rd round pick. Could have just signed any of the vet free agents and kept the pick and got similar production.

21-15 TD-INT ratio last year.
