I understand his cap hit is $44m but if we cut him the dead money is $13m so in effect keeping Geno costs $30m.
The alternatives are another proven starting level QB like Darnold for $45-$50. A back-up that we hope we can turn into a starter like we did with Geno (though Geno had been with the team for years so we knew exactly what we had) or a Rookie that is available to us in a weak year for QBs when we pick at 18 with no time to develop and what is likely to still be a very weak O-line to pretect him (especially is the QB is taken in the first round).
Did I miss something? Did we win a sb with Geno or something? Hate to break it to you, but we are losing now with Geno. So the "loser mentality" accusations are pretty laughable.Hope isn’t a business plan. Y’all know damn well if we take a QB, cut Geno and the QB goes out and plays like shit you will all sit there and whine and bitch and moan like you do now with Geno.
I know you’ll come back with we get a better draft pick but draft picks aren’t a sure thing. 3 in the top 4 last year (young, stroud, AR) and only one has looked decent. A class like last hasn’t been seen in 40 years so you can’t point to that one.
Building a team off hope is losers mentality. Something JS, Mike and Jody want no part of it. All you have to do is listen to any of their interviews.
I’m just having fun with it. I’m all honesty, which I’ve said before, you can make decent arguments for keeping or moving on from Geno. That’s why it’s such a polarizing topic.me? I am firmly on the trade or release Geno now crowd. I would leave the stat war to you and your adversaries.
You must have missed we have not had one losing season with Geno. 9-8, 9-8, 10-7. That may not be winning a championship over that span, but 30 other teams can say the same thing. Winning records looks a lot like winning to me. If you think this team with a better QB was in position to win a championship, then I'm not sure what you've been watching. The window to compete for championships isn't open until about 2026. Maybe 2025 with a very good draft and FA.Did I miss something? Did we win a sb with Geno or something? Wow. If winning 8-10 games every year and not ever winning a playoff game, let alone a championship, is good enough for you, then honestly, that's just kind of sad. I would much rather aim high and miss, than aim low and hit, just so I can take comfort in a "winning record." According to you then the entire team should be let go, top to bottom. They haven't won in 3 years with Geno there, what a bunch of ******* losers? The team wasn't built to win but all 53 players should have overachieved.Wow. If anything short of a SB is failure 31 sets of fans are disapointed every year are disappointed with a 3% chance to be happy I don't think I would enjoy the game.Wow. Exactly. We won a championship with Russ because we had the team built around him to succeed and he came in and beat out a highly paid Flynn at the time.If anything short of a SB is failure 31 sets of fans are disapointed every year are disappointed with a 3% chance to be happy I don't think I would enjoy the game.
However you rate success I think we are more likely to win the SB / win a playoff game / make the play-offs if invest out 1st round pick in O-line this season rather than get a rookie QB and spend Geno's Cap hit (net of dead money) to fix the O-line.
I wasn't taking a side one way or another. It's 50/50 and it's JSs call. I'm anxious to see how it plays out.So you're good being the 4th longest streak in the NFC to make it to the conference championship game and having no playoff wins in years because hey we win 8-10 games a year. That's fine but for many it's not. We want to be a playoff team and compete. I don't want a Seattle Mariners situation which is what Seattle has slipped into since Russ left and even little before.
If drafting a QB is a 50/50 bet what is Geno who has never won a playoff game then?
I’m with you dude. I want someone new (and it’s fine if someone doesn’t) hit regardless I want better than 16 touchdowns and 15 picks for the year (before the throw away game) and a QBR in the mid 20’s. If it’s Geno then fine he needs to be massively better. If you can go way cheaper, have a young guy who looks to have a bright future and use that money to improve other areas? That’s ideal to me but if not I’ll be cheering for Geno nonethelessI wasn't taking a side one way or another. It's 50/50 and it's JSs call. I'm anxious to see how it plays out.
Everyone that disdains Geno must have loved Drew Lock and now Sam Howell. Insisting on a new QB comes with accepting the result. I'm good if it goes that way, but if Geno isn't a Seahawk this season, good chance Sam starts.
Personally, I hope for better QB play and I don't really care if it's a result of a different QB, different OC, different system, different OLine personnel, different blocking scheme.... Also, I'm not judging you if you only want a different QB. You be you man.
I don’t agree but I also admit it’s a reasonable approach. There really isn’t a wrong or right because we don’t know the outcomes. Just depends on how someone views building a team that can compete. I just think we’ve become the mariners in a sense with one of the least successful playoff teams in the NFC for years now so why keep doing the same thing. But I also concede it’s possible Geno has a big rebound year with a new staff and some holes fixed. It’s just hard to believe John is going to nail the line when he never has.I guess people prefer different things.
If we keep Geno we know where we stand maybe unlikely to win a superbowl (say 1%) but about a 50% chance to make the play-offs. Very unlikely we would have less than 6 or 7 wins.
If we dump Geno and take a rookie in the draft like Jaxon Dart then:
Of course drafting a QB in the later rounds can have the same results. The odds of success are lower because they are rated lower by scouting staff but if we keep Geno that is partially offset by the confidence taking a hit as they they try to adapt to the speed of the NFL while being the most important member of the team getting attacked for everything they do wrong. That is why I favor keeping Geno (either on his current contract or via an extension / rework that allows us to cut him is a year or two without huge amounts of dead cap) and getting a QB on day 2 or 3.
- We could find we have the next Mahomes (though even he had a season to learn the ropes of the NFL what would have happened if he was thrown straight in is unknown). Odds are extremely low (IMO less than 1%) but if it happens probably make the play-offs this season and then be SB contenders after that even after his rookie contract ends.
- We could have someone like RW3. Again the odds are very low, in this scenario we have a chance of a SB or two during his rookie contract but when he gets paid, (and everyone else on the team can attract more money elsewhere because we are successful) we go back to being a team that might make the play-offs but wont go all the way.
- The best we are likely to do is get a servicable starter, after a year or two. Maybe 6 or 7 wins this season a couple more in year 2 maybe making the pay-offs and a decent chance of winning a playoff game in year 3 or 4.
- The most likely scenario is they are a bust, possible capable of being a back-up if winning 9 or 10 games is a failure what is winning half that? You then end up like the Jets gettign a high draft pick every year and trying to find QB that can win you games, meanwhile team morale goes way down making the task all the harder.
Exactly. This is the right approach where we are at and exactly what I’ve been saying.I guess people prefer different things.

This is where I’m at. Geno is our best option this season. I honestly can’t form an opinion (in good faith) until we do something about our line play.I guess people prefer different things.
