Saints at Seahawks
Seattle has had four 10+ win seasons since opening up the new stadium in 2002. Their home record during those seasons (2003, 2005, 2007, 2012, including the postseason those years) is a jaw dropping 34-1. When the Seahawks are good, they don't lose at home period (though a few teams came agonizingly close). It makes our home games more of a routine than anything suspenseful, even when the 6-3 Vikings came here was anyone even the slightest bit doubtful we'd win?
Of course, there is that troublesome "1" in that stat. The lone QB to beat us in our house during that sample? Drew Brees (2007). On an 0-4 team no less. The Seahawks had to play the game of their lives to beat Brees the next time he visited Seattle, which of course was the legendary Beast Quake game in the playoffs. That playoff game was the first and only occasion which the Seahawks have beaten Drew Brees as a member of the Saints. And they didn't pull it off with much room to spare, either.
Brees' game travels as well as any QB in the NFL, and his teams have scored 28 and 36 points during his two trips to our stadium. This will probably be the best defense he's ever played (ever!) but still, I'm very much expecting fireworks in this game, or at least Patriots v. Seahawks in 2012 type fireworks. This game is far more losable than any other home game this season, I am not afraid of the 49ers in our house. But rather than be nervous, I'm excited for what could be the most electrifying game of the 2013 regular season.
Seahawks at 49ers
Everyone is hyping the week 2 prime time matchup, and it will be infused with energy I'm sure, but I'm not expecting a very competitive football game (unless Harbaugh catches Pete with his pants down with a bunch of new wrinkles on offense). I think the second game in SF will be much more competitive, and I think it will also decide the division. Given the unfriendliness of Seattle's schedule compared to SF's, I think Seattle needs a 49ers sweep to take the NFC West. That will make the road game at SF the highest stakes game of the season.
It will also provide the Seahawks an opportunity to prove they are finally road warriors. And who knows, maybe Seattle is 12-0 heading into that game and gunning for a perfecto? For another few days at least, I can still dream.
This is the toughest game of the season for Seattle and I expect it to be the most intense as well. Flags will be flying, and maybe a few fists too.
Seahawks at Falcons
It sucks that our chance for revenge comes at 10am. I fully expect Atlanta to put up another 20 first half points as our defense wakes up. If we score more than 10 at halftime though, I think we get a gratifying W. Like the Saints game, I'm expecting some intense fireworks in this one. Both teams will challenge each other. The big difference will be the pass rush. If we are fully healthy by then, Matt Ryan won't have all day to find his elite targets in zone coverages.
Seahawks at Texans
This is the one game on the schedule where I could see a team catching us flat footed. The Texans fanbase kind of views this game as their SB, a chance to test their team against the best in the NFL. I'm guessing there is probably a similar degree of excitement for the Texans players, this game is real opportunity for a statement win to build confidence beyond the regular season. I think we match up well with the Texans (big WRs, big RBs) and their defense isn't any worse than what our team faces on a regular basis in the division. I see this one being tight though. It's at 10am, too. Should be exciting, hopefully in a good way.
