Saints at Seahawks

Seattle has had four 10+ win seasons since opening up the new stadium in 2002. Their home record during those seasons (2003, 2005, 2007, 2012, including the postseason those years) is a jaw dropping 34-1. When the Seahawks are good, they don't lose at home period (though a few teams came agonizingly close). It makes our home games more of a routine than anything suspenseful, even when the 6-3 Vikings came here was anyone even the slightest bit doubtful we'd win?

Of course, there is that troublesome "1" in that stat. The lone QB to beat us in our house during that sample? Drew Brees (2007). On an 0-4 team no less. The Seahawks had to play the game of their lives to beat Brees the next time he visited Seattle, which of course was the legendary Beast Quake game in the playoffs. That playoff game was the first and only occasion which the Seahawks have beaten Drew Brees as a member of the Saints. And they didn't pull it off with much room to spare, either.

Brees' game travels as well as any QB in the NFL, and his teams have scored 28 and 36 points during his two trips to our stadium. This will probably be the best defense he's ever played (ever!) but still, I'm very much expecting fireworks in this game, or at least Patriots v. Seahawks in 2012 type fireworks. This game is far more losable than any other home game this season, I am not afraid of the 49ers in our house. But rather than be nervous, I'm excited for what could be the most electrifying game of the 2013 regular season.

Seahawks at 49ers

Everyone is hyping the week 2 prime time matchup, and it will be infused with energy I'm sure, but I'm not expecting a very competitive football game (unless Harbaugh catches Pete with his pants down with a bunch of new wrinkles on offense). I think the second game in SF will be much more competitive, and I think it will also decide the division. Given the unfriendliness of Seattle's schedule compared to SF's, I think Seattle needs a 49ers sweep to take the NFC West. That will make the road game at SF the highest stakes game of the season.

It will also provide the Seahawks an opportunity to prove they are finally road warriors. And who knows, maybe Seattle is 12-0 heading into that game and gunning for a perfecto? For another few days at least, I can still dream.

This is the toughest game of the season for Seattle and I expect it to be the most intense as well. Flags will be flying, and maybe a few fists too.

Seahawks at Falcons

It sucks that our chance for revenge comes at 10am. I fully expect Atlanta to put up another 20 first half points as our defense wakes up. If we score more than 10 at halftime though, I think we get a gratifying W. Like the Saints game, I'm expecting some intense fireworks in this one. Both teams will challenge each other. The big difference will be the pass rush. If we are fully healthy by then, Matt Ryan won't have all day to find his elite targets in zone coverages.

Seahawks at Texans

This is the one game on the schedule where I could see a team catching us flat footed. The Texans fanbase kind of views this game as their SB, a chance to test their team against the best in the NFL. I'm guessing there is probably a similar degree of excitement for the Texans players, this game is real opportunity for a statement win to build confidence beyond the regular season. I think we match up well with the Texans (big WRs, big RBs) and their defense isn't any worse than what our team faces on a regular basis in the division. I see this one being tight though. It's at 10am, too. Should be exciting, hopefully in a good way.

Never knew Brees was that successful in our house. It should be ridiculous...MNF, Brees. Wilson against his hero? Clemons, Irvin and Harvin back? It should be classic.

Would you call the Texans game a "trap" game?

I dont know if you're being sarcastic or not, but trap games are games where a really dominant team is playing a subpar team to average team, and overlooks them. Houston is far from a subpar to average team.

I think this week's game qualifies as that. With a banged up DL, 10 AM start, humid 90 degrees...there might not be a more dangerous game on our schedule. In fact, I wouldn't read too much into a loss, whereas a win would re-affirm huge expectations.

First games of the season are not trap games...like ever.

I think first games of the season can qualify as some of the biggest trap games conceptually possible, because team psyche is fueled by offseason expectations and (in some ways meaningless) preseason results, there is no current year game film, and summer weather persists for 1-2 weeks.

Week 4 vs the Texans is the regular season game I look forward to the most. Reason #1. I see it as our first real test. A top ten team, stout defense, on the road, early start. Reason # 2 and most important, I have tickets and get to go. First Hawks game since "96" for me. Holy crap, I'm excited. It's so bad that if I start thinking about before bed, I can't fall asleep. PS another good post Kearly, thanks.

Guys, I love you all, but those early games are not 10am games...

EVERYONE's wristwatch in those stadiums will be reading either noon, or 1:00pm, at time of kickoff.

Lol, I knew you were going to post this! :th2thumbs:

What people MEAN is 10 am "body clock" time for the team. 1 Eastern = 10 Pacific.

It matters, and Pete is trying to address it by practicing at 10 am Pacific. The ugly history of West Coast teams playing 10 am Pacific start times is well documented . . . although it doesn't seem to impact our defense as much as our offense.

The 2nd week 49ers game is a no brainer for me because it's going to provide a lot of ammunition for our board against the influx of 9ers fans if we take our their knees again.

I'm really looking forward to the Tampa Bay game. They have quite a few weapons at this point, and we might even get to see some pre- or post game jawing between Revis and Sherman.

I'm very interested in the Indianapolis game. Even though I predicted it as our first loss of the season, I think it's a game we should win. I also think that if we can destroy Luck while Wilson takes down the Indy defense, maybe the pundits will shut up about Manning 2.0 for awhile. (However, if we lose on a 4th quarter comeback...I don't even want to think about it.)

I'm very much looking forward to the ATL and NO games, should be very good tests for us, offensive powerhouses at home and away. We should be good and battle tested by then with facing SF and STL earlier in the season.

Strangely enough, I'm most looking forward to the games that we "should win," like the Jags, Titans, and Vikes.

Those games last year: Detroit, Miami, Arizona, and even the Rams, gave us tougher match-ups than expected. I realize those games last year were played on the road, and the games I listed as my top are at home this year. I still want to see convincing wins against them.

The matchups in the Houston game are fantastic. And .NET will be well-represented in the stadium. Can't wait.

At least we know even JJ Watt has a hard time catching Wilson. See Pro Bowl.

Well, Watt had a much harder time when Okung was in than when going against Bushrod from what I remember.

The Texans and Saints games look to be difficult, perhaps the most difficult I think right now in addition to all the divisional games. The Giants I don't know about, could be good or average, but the Texans and Saints in addition to the Falcons are going to be rough.

Really, the divisional games sunk us more last season than anything else. (Win week one or pull that game out at the Rams and we get a home playoff game.)
