Lockett let go. DK about to be traded (possibly), Geno traded.

At the end of the day it’s all about finances. I’m as shocked as many about all these changes in the last 48 hours but looking closely it makes sense from a cap perspective. I’m still surprised they traded Geno (I never understood the hate he got) but again…

Follow the money.

I don't understand the hate either.... People on this board want Sam... or Fields... but loath the idea of Darnold who just led his team to 14-2 with better stats than Geno... and he's 27 years old.

I can see the sense, Geno knows this is his last hurrah for a contract with any volume and duration, Pete believes in him and the Raiders need effective not sensational QB play, John needed to get cheaper and find a longer term answer.

He just needed to find... BETTER.... You cant throw a ton of your Ints in the red zone... oh wow you threw for 4200 yards when 70 percent of the play calls were passes.... should have broken records at that rate

Minnesotas offensive line , offensive coordinator, and WR1 ,WR2, RB all better than the Seahawks . He was in a great situation . Geno was in a much worse position and overall did well

Geno's production didn't equal the money he was asking for. Bottom line.

Darnold crumbled like a cookie at the first signs of real pressure on him on the big stage. He is nowhere near the athlete Geno is and unless Macdonald and company put together a serious oline, he will fail miserably here. As will fields, rogers, or any rookie they draft.

This trade is head scratching to me for the simple fact, who are you going to bring in that's better under pressure....

The Hawks are currently being the most rational and logical they've been in a long time. Things are actually aligning. How?
The Hawks will be throwing the ball a lot less next season, so finding a way to spend *less* at QB makes perfect sense.
With the Hawks throwing the ball a lot less next season it also makes sense to reduce the amount we're spending at WR. That has already been accomplished by cutting Lockett, and we can now hold on to Metcalf or trade him and get a cheaper (but good) WR to replace him. Either one works.
The Hawks need to improve the OL at minimum, and probably improve our RB group with a focus on RBs who can stay healthy and be counted on. That costs money.

If we can sign someone like Fields to be our QB I can see us being better than last year.

It's about getting a young qbotf on a rookie contract so we can build the team around him like we did with Russ. It worked perfectly and is the only time we won a sb. That's why the resistance to trying to reinvent the wheel with expensive veteran qb's. It's not crazy, it's basic logic.

AROS, with the money Seattle is now “saving” by moving Geno and assuming DK does get traded, where will these new available saves money resources go towards?

Gotta allocate it somewhere….

It’s going to be interesting if now Mac and Schneider will devote this “extra” money towards building a killer defense.

I don’t know.

Trey Hendrickson, is looking for a new contract since the Bengals are not extending him. Pretty stupid move IMO by the Bengals but what Seattle will now do with all this extra money will be very telling.

I don’t think they will “throw the bag” at free agency. I don’t think Schneider has it in him to pay an offensive lineman free agent. Not sure if he wants to throw the money at a few defensive players (possibly) but how and what Seattle does from this point on, will shape the Mac era, IMO.

And I’m sure Mac will definitely be in Schneider’s ear for the next month for this draft and we will see how the Mac era plays out. It’s now off and running and seemingly just really began. Exciting times!

Speaking of being about the money and with the cap room cleared, I see no excuse now for not being able to bring back Jones and extend Cross (I think eligible for that in a year).
