Foles gets a bad rap because he slid in production last year. But that slide is relative to where he was the year before. Looking at last years DYAR and DVOA, he would have represented a HUGE upgrade from what the Rams had. Ultimately, not a lot worse than Wilson who also dropped off a bit last season. Looking at the year before that, Foles was second only to Peyton Manning in DVOA. That's a level of play the Rams haven't seen in well over a decade.

Now consider that the Rams have a vicious defense and the typical Ram loss is 13-10 and everyone leaves saying, wow, that was a tough win. But it was a win. That's what has kept the Rams out of contention. Their offense can't get the job done. Well, they just got at the very least a Game Manager level QB who possibly could turn out to be better than that. Even if Foles is at best a Game Manager, the Rams will be a much tougher win.

This is a big improvement for their team.

Kudos, you definitely get it. Well written too. You nailed it with the relative to the year before. :th2thumbs:

Interesting fact: Foles faced an average of the 24th ranked scoring defense and 22nd in defensive yards in his 10 starts in 2013, those numbers dropped to 17th and 19th respectively in his 8 starts in 2014.

I'm sorry Salish, but I just don't see it. He has yet to prove himself consistently against great defenses, and he will be facing some of the best for the majority of the season this year. I stand by my statement that he is hot garbage and I'm glad he's with the Rams.

Foles's best year he had Desean Jackson, once he left, Fole's performance dropped. Is it Chip's system that makes him who he was we will find out, as Sanchez did pretty decent in Chip's system as well. Plus last year he played against some tough D, I have a feeling that Foles will get hurt again. Foles better learn to be mobile or else he might not last the season in the NFC West.

What I find to be funny is how both Rams and Seahawks fans are happy about Wilson's contract and Foles contract.

Which means neither fan base is remotely scared of the other teams' QB.

And that makes sense, because neither QB has hurt the opposing team much.

I'm not sure what we have in Foles, but he'll be an upgrade over last year's QB play.

As far as I can tell, seems that the Rams fans, Niner fans, and Cards fans who were "happy" about the Wilson signing were so because they believed it took up cap space and would cause the Hawks to pay out a lot of $$$$ to Wilson and therefore start depleting the team of other players.

It's a total dif thing re: Foles from Hawk fans. That is based on their perception of his game play as a QB.

I'm looking forward to seeing Foles do some play v the 'Boys on Monday and Tuesday. I saw him play live v Rams last year, and he played good that game. I've also watched some where he did not look good.

Holding off on my opinion of him - but THRILLLLLLLLLED as can be that B is not my QB this year. I'm ready for the next adventure.

Kinda OT - booking trip to Philly for the Saints@Philly game w my guy and I go: you do know this means you will be rooting for Bradford that game, right? Him: What? I'm not doing that. He didn't realize B went there (typical Charger fan). Now he says he will enjoy Philly and root for the Saints. :) :)

Foles has, quite literally, never faced a defense as good as the Seahawks. In fact, he's never faced a top 5 defense in his career.

As for Wilson:

I'm not worried.

This may not be the year for the Rams but I remain optimistic. It is a path to progress if all three pieces fall into place on offense- Foles, Gurley, O line. I respect the heck out of RW's play but the Rams are improved on defense too which makes me look forward to the divisional games in particular this year.

For me it comes down to the same thing - both fan bases are happy because they believe both QBs are overpaid and will hurt the team.

I'm not worried either. You chose highlights from one game that the Rams won, and another that the Rams held the Wilson led offense to 135 total yards.

I doubt Foles will light up the Seahawks - but that's my point. Both teams have QBs that the other fans (and presumably, teams) aren't afraid of.

@SF28 - Other than he is not B, I really have no solid read on Foles yet. I like to make my own opinions and so waiting to see him play. B drove me nuts with his lack of leadership skills.

I'm positive right now, as I'm just happy it's someone new. Like I said, can't wait to see Foles on the field, even if it's a practice. Want to see how he interacts with the team as well.

By what math is Foles overpaid? :0190l:

There are whole long threads on other sites devoted to this mystery. Ro gave the best explanation last year, and I have tired of the topic.

In Foles 28 games, he has beaten a team that finished the season with more than 8 wins exactly twice. The Cards and the Colts. All other wins have come against teams that finished with 8 wins or less. I guess the good thing for ram fans is that he does beat the teams he should. Maybe no more losses to bottom dwelling teams, but they probably aren't going to beat the better teams either.

I don't think the Seahawks are bankrupt from the Wilson signing.

Rams did beat better teams with backup QBs so your logic is faulty. :177692:
